help! 1st trip to NY - which airport?

:scared1:

It's actually scary what some people post here.

I commuted in and out of NYC every day for several years, and was in NY Penn at all hours of the day and night. I never once felt unsafe.

I guess if your idea of the big city is some little town in Iowa with a population of 3000, you might feel on edge. But I assure you it's quite safe and well policed.

They are coming from Seatle--I haven't been there in about eight years, but last time I was there, I would call it a large, metropolitan city, hardly a little town.

OK I see they have built a new train station to serve the airport. BUT you need to be careful about words or you mislead out of towners! The Airtrain is the light rail that runs around the airport terminals and takes you out to the Newark Liberty Train station. At the train station you must change to a NJ Transit train.

Read the cost & tickets page CAREFULLY. You must buy a ticket that you will use on both the Airtrain AND on your NJT train.

The train station is at the airport but about half a mile from Terminal C, so you don't change trains once you get on NJ Transit. You only have to change from the "train" that connects the terminals and the Airtrain station. The kiosks where you buy tickets for NJ Transit are well marked and intuitive in explaining the fare details.
