My kids are really getting on my last nerve when it comes to this.
Anyone remember that commercial where they wondered how many licks it would take to get to the center of a Tootsie roll lollipop?
Well, I'm wondering how many times I have to tell my kids to do something before they actually listen and do it!!? Ugh.

Yup, I'll ask my DS4 to something nicely: "Please put your shirts away in your middle drawer."

Then, I get a little testy: "Ethan, come put these shirts away."

Then, downright snarfy: "Ethan, get over here and put these shirts away!"

Then, I just start counting: "1....2...."

Usually, DS actually does the thing when I start counting. Wouldn't it be nice, though, if he did what I said the first time I mentioned it?

You sound like my household! :rotfl: :rotfl: I love the tootsie pop analogy too! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Good luck to you! :sunny:

Not only the kids but DHs also. My DH has selective hearing. I have to repeat something many times and each time he looks at me as if it was the first time he heard it. :confused3

If I could link the strip, I would.

Baby Blues yesterday was Wanda yelling at Hammie in 5 panels to leave Zoe alone. In the sixth, Wanda comes to get Hammie away and asks why he didn't stop-she'd yelled six times. He says "I only heard you twice"

That strip is my life, lol!

I think all of our kids are related. I can ask DD to do something and I get the infamous "in a minute" remark. I didn't say in a minute, I said now!!!! DS will do something for me in a heartbeat. No second guessing him. It really becomes a battle around bedtime. Getting her to take her asthma meds and brush her teeth are major chores.

For about 30 minutes I used a squirt gun to get their attention. It made for a loud evening.

Oh it worked for the rest of the night. The next morning all the squirt guns were missing. I wonder why. :confused3 :rotfl2:

I was a stubborn child as well.

Mommy: Go to your room.

Me: No

Mommy: GO to YOUR room.

Me: I dont want to

Mommy: GO TO YOUR ROOM. (ps she never yelled)

Me: Why?

Mommy: BECAUSE IT IS SAFER THERE

I ran to my room :rotfl2:

Anyone else have this

You raise your voice to tell the kids to do something (when in the same room as them) or you call them to come here... and the say they never heard you BUT ... when you are having a talk with DH and at a regular chat tone of voice and the kids hear EVERY WORD... TALK ABOUT SELECTIVE HEARING.

That is hilarious. I am sure it worked............

My kids have been the same lately! And DH...except with DH he hears everything...he just doesn't acknowledge it...which is worse. Actually, I think DD4 does the same cuz she's a little mini-me of DH.

Yep, my boys (13 and 15) are the same. I guess they think I don't mean it when I ask them to do something. I finally started doing what they tell you to do with little kids - if you ask them to pick up their toys and they don't do it, you take the toys away and they have to earn them back. You should see how nice they are when they want to play Nintendo but Mom took the controllers since they left them in the middle of the floor! :)

Try the "three strikes and you're out" method..

You ask them once.. No response..

You then ask them to repeat what your request was back to you.. If they can repeat it, then you know they heard it..

You make the request again - quite firmly.. If there still is no response, it's the third strike and they're out.. Follow it up with some kind of consequence..
-----------------

Do this a number of times and pretty soon they'll get the message and respond the first time, rather than suffer the consequences of the thrid time.. :flower:
