Helicopter in Skagway: morning of afternoon?

Hi, we are planning to do the helicopter to glacier and dog mushing excursion in Skagway because we want to whale watching in Juneau. Is it better to book in the afternoon to avoid morning fog? Or is fog not really a factor in Skagway? Thanks!

Fog can happen at any time in AK. It's the weather in the ports you dock in and the weather conditions where you'll be going that seem to be the determining factors. We did AK in July of 2011 and I asked about this and was told that during that summer from the start of the AK season to our cruise mid July, DCL had to cancel one helicopter excursion. If you're going with an independent it may be different. We did one of DCL's dog sledding deals in Juneau and it was amazing! Enjoy!

We booked the ships excursion for the afternoon. Due to fog and weather, we went on the 2:30PM flight, were the only ones that were able to fly that day. The excursion was amazing. All the morning flights were cancelled. I loved it.

Alaska is too variable to safely predict, but afternoons tend to clear up.

We were always told to book in the afternoon because of the fog in the morning. Well, due to other things we ended up booking in the morning. We flew and it was great! However, afternoon flights were cancelled because of fog. Luck of the draw I guess. We we did the helicopter in Skagway with the dog sledding, the Disney excursion.

Just go with your preference as I've seen helicopter tours both canceled in the AM and resumed in the PM , and vice versa .
Still the Helicopter tours are not to be missed .
$$ but well worth it.

We sailed this past August. Had helicopter booked for 10am in Juneau and it was cancelled because of fog.. If I were to do it again, I would definitely book afternoon!
