We just returned from an awesome 4 night trip.

My 5 year DS is right at 42 inches. He understood that he might not get to ride some things. He also understood that he would be measured twice for each ride and just because the first measurement said he was OK, the 2nd one might not.

We get to Jurassic Park, he's measured and is not tall enough. So, we are going to do child swap. When we get to the area to get on the ride, we told the ride attendant we were going to do child swap. He said, "Let me measure him here". And he was tall enough!! He told us to take him thru the queue on all the rides because the 2nd measurement was the one that determined if he could ride or not.

It was the same thing at all the rides with a 42 inch requirement. He wasn't tall enough at the entrance, but was where you get on the ride. It was the same every day of our trip and every time we rode.

I'm so glad the Jurassic Park attendant gave us that advice. My DS would have missed some very fun rides.

Why would it be 2 different measurements. I would think it would be the other way around..the one closests to the ride be more accurate.

Just theorizing but, the ground at the entrance might not be level. So, depending on where you stand, you could get slighting different readings. Looking at google maps, it looks like the land might drop slightly around the measuring stick. So, depending on where you stand, it could be slightly longer than 42". if the 2nd measuring stick is on level ground, it would be more accurate, and you'd be more likely to make it. Just like the OP reported.

Interesting. My daughter always was turned away at the first measuring station. On RRR, they had to take a card out of their pocket to see if they could slide it between her head and the bar. They barely could so they said she was too short. (We came back the next few days in the morning and she barely made it by doing morning). RRR was just our last experience - she's had many trips where she was borderline so that wasn't an isolated experience. They must have changed it for the 42" rides, but they're still very strict on rides with higher limits.
