Height measured with shoes taken into account or no?

I have a kid that is over 42" with shoes but under barefoot. Does anyone know if the measuring sticks are 42" or if they are 42.5"+ to account for shoes? There's only one ride he wouldn't be able to ride on but I would love to know so I can steer him away from it if there's no chance he will be tall enough.

I am eagerly awaiting the answer to this question! My son is 39 or so inches barefoot so barely over 40" with shoes. I just assumed it was 40" period and never even thought they may add a bit to take shoes into consideration. He is SO excited for RSR, so I'm going to be really sad (as is he) if he can't go on it. Btw, what kind of shoes does your son wear that are 2" insoles?! I might have to get mine a pair. :)

Oh he's 41.5" tall barefoot, the shoes just bump him just over 42"

Thanks! I'll make sure to have him try first thing in the morning, I seem to remember my oldest having issues with the Sky School pole being on the taller side of 42".

I think all the poles are standard length, it's just that our bodies naturally shrink as the day progresses (we are tallest when we wake up).
I think you'll be fine either way since CMs are pretty lenient if you're right on the edge, but doing it early in the morning would be a good idea if you want to be extra safe.

That might have been it, I just remember that was the ride that she was bouncing back and forth between being not tall enough and tall enough that week. It may have been an early = taller thing.

Thankfully for all the refurbs, it's the only 42" ride that is open :) everything else is 40" or a ride he would never go on :)

Hair counts too! We've gone with littles that get that extra half-inch from spiky hair or a tall ponytail. :D

Any chance it was Jumpin' Jellyfish that she wasn't tall enough for? That is the only stick that is wrong. And it's wrong by a lot...it's supposed to be 40", but it's easily 40.5" and maybe even a little higher. If you do some searching on the boards, you will find a post where someone took her measuring tape and measured every single height stick in both parks. They were all dead-on...except for JJ.

I think it depends on the CM. They were REALLY strict with DS at Indy. DS does not have spiky hair, but the CM put his finger in to see if he could get it to fit in between DS's head and the stick. Hair wasn't good enough...he wanted to feel my son's skull hitting the stick.

No, I don't think so because I know she did ride Sky School and the rope swing at Redwood Creek and those are both 42" (or were at that trip in 2011) and I remember her riding JJ a lot when she couldn't ride Sky School. I do remember her riding SS a ton one morning though because she was tall enough then, so it may have been a just tall enough in the morning type of thing. I'm really glad we did wait until my middle kid was taller than 40" though for sure, because that definitely opens up SO many rides for them!

It could have been shoes affected too - I know she was wearing flipflops at times and sneakers others.

Oh! lmao! I obviously read that wrong. I've been stressing over the 40" mark for the past month so that's on my mind. haha. :rotfl2:

Good to know!

Hopefully yours has a little growth spurt so he gets to ride everything! I'm always shocked at how much kids grow in a week with spurts... my oldest was 47.25 for like 3 months. I measured her right before we went camping and right after and she was 48" easy. No wonder she was sleeping well!

Saw this thread and although I'm was not based in DL I was a WDW CM until mid 2014. I can tell you hair doesn't count and obviously tall shoes do not count either. It isn't likely kids will get asked to take their shoes off only if the CM suspects "stuffing". For hair if I could pass a piece of paper or more commonly available the red flick card between their head and the bar they weren't riding. It isn't because we are mean but because that is safety standards and if something were to happen we could be held liable and both lose our jobs and face neglect charges. Some CMs do take it a lot more serious that others though. I hardly ever had to measure kids and it was never at a ride with a real danger so I usually wasn't that hard.

Just throwing it out there a properly fitting pair of cowboy boots won't turn any heads and usually have a bigger heal than sneakers.

Also Star Tours! There are 2 measuring sticks at the entrance. On one, our daughter was tall enough, on the other, she wasn't. After riding it several times and then being refused because she suddenly wasn't tall enough, we asked for her to be measured by the other stick and she passed!!! She was over 40' on all the other rides, so that one stick was definitely off

We took our grandson in Nov. he was 39.5 without shoes and 40 with shoes...but we did run into a problem at the beginning of the day he could get on the rides, but by late evening he could not. The CM's told us that by walking all day that the kids spine compact and they shrink. In the morning he rode BTMR and by 7pm he could not ride it..Hair does not count, they push them right under the measurer and see if they can get their hand under it any..

The sticks are EXACTLY what they are supposed to be EXCEPT for jumping Jellyfish. I have personally measured them. Sticks that are to be 40", are 40" (except Jellyfish which is 41".) 42" are 42".

"Funny" story. We were at Screamin' near the front of the line. A CM was measuring two young twin girls with their crazy mom with them. They aren't measuring tall enough - in fact one is a good 0.5" short. The mom is yelling at the CM that they were tall enough yesterday, so they are tall enough today. The CM calmly held his ground and attempted to explain the procedure. The mom wasn't listening; she grabbed the girls by their arms and rudely yelled "C'mon girls don't listen to this guy, we're riding anyways" and started to walk to the boarding line.....as if they were going to be able to get on and ride without him knowing. :lmao:
The girls looked mortified and bewildered.....nice example to set for your kids, mom!

Oh my goodness!! Did the CM call other people to come help him?
