Heidelberg ---near German wine country?..other Heidelberg activities

I have been looking for things to do in Heidelberg for our arrival day in Germany next week! ( I know I'm a bit late on research but was too busy wedding planning).

We will have arrival day and I think day 2 of the ABD in Heidelberg on our own for most of the day.

I have been reading that Heidelberg is near some wineries. We LOVE wine and going to vineyards (we got engaged at a vineyard ) Does anyone know anything about this ? I am having a tough time googling. I have found one vineyard (Winery Clauer) that has tastings but I think you need 15 people. I am not sure if in Germany it is like visiting wineries in the US where you can just drop by with two people.

Several people in our group enjoyed the Philosopher's Walk - very nice views of the castle and river. There is also a river cruise that leaves from right downtown. You buy the tickets on the boat. Several people did that and enjoyed it. I'm not sure about wineries.

I don't know about the winery but we took a local bus from the transportation hub in town out to see the summer castle. It was really beautiful and you can take a guided tour when you get there. Our guide spoke perfect English and really made the tour both educational as well as exciting. Philosopher's Way is a great view.
