So far this spring I know 6 children who have broken their arms while using their Heelys. Is this exceptional or do you know of other kids getting injured? My kids have them and now I am beginning to regret this purchase..especially if it means spending the summer in a cast!

There have been some reported injuries at our school per my 10 yo daughter (I can't verify it so take it with a grain of salt.) I wouldn't let her get them because I wouldn't be with her all the time and I've seen kids do stupid and rude things while wearing/riding them. I hope your kids don't have any problems with them

I think this will be moved to the community boards as I don't know if it is a Disney Family topic but I am against heeleys. My kids don't like me much as 'ALL' their friends have them. In my opinion they are dangerous and we too know friends who have broken arms on them. Once friends daughter who is 11 is currently in a cast from breaking her arm using heeleys. Locally here you need to wear a helmet when you are rollerblading, skateboarding or bike riding including scooters. Heeleys are a form of roller skates and helments need to be worn when wearing them or you risk getting a ticket from the polics. They are ban from our school district as being to dangerous. Never the less as soon as school is out many kids pop those wheels in and scoot off campus.

As I worked at a rollerskating rink most of my adolecent years I have to say these things are just accidents waiting to happen.

1st the desgn it's self is made to keep you off balance while rolling.

2nd becaus there is no real form of stopping (like regular skates or blades Toe/heal stop or even t-stop)you are forced to just put your foot down and all that does is throws you forward and into a FACEPLANT .

Your natural reaction is to put you hands in front of you and sorry but a arm or wrist can not withstand the force of your entire moving body and will break.

This is probably just an exception but a 11 year old in this area was stuck and killed while crossing th strret to get the mail... there was some speculation that he had heelies on and was not able to stop...
Very sad

I personally don't like them, but it is because I've seen a number of instances at DTD and WDW where kids wearing them have run into other people and knocked them down. I was personally run into at DTD.

WDW is just too crowded for them, but I see them more and more. The CMs will not do anything about them unless they cause a problem.

My son broke his arm on Heely's. I think they are accessible at times when parents are not right there to remind the kids to put on helmets and be respectful of others around. My son's Heely's were put in the garbage can in the ER while his arm was being set. No one in my home will own them again.

Everyone needs to make their own decision, but since we've been through the injury I thought I'd add my 2 cents.

My niece (11) was hurt badly while wearing Heelys. She broke her foot and damaged her growth plate. She has been in various casts since March and is now in physical therapy. She wasn't able to participate on her softball or soccer team this season and she is really bummed about it.

I'm already being asked by my four year old when she can get them! The answer is never! I think the only reason I haven't seen dental injuries from Heelies is that they require the kids to lean back slightly - otherwise I would expect some broken teeth in addition to all these arms! They just seem dangerous.

My son does have them and LOVES them but he's not allowed to wear them to school and I don't let him use them in crowded areas so as not to disturb others. I hope and pray that he doesn't get hurt when he just wears them in our court, but then again I do that when he's riding his bike, skating, scootering, etc. I would imagine there will probably be a ban on them soon in the theme parks~it only makes sense.

My 7 yo DS is dying for these shoes. DH is pretty set on getting them for him *sigh*
