Heating baby bottles

I use our microwave to heat my baby's bottles (I shake them VERY VERY well). How am I going to be able to heat bottles on the cruise? I'm especially concerned about that middle of the night feeding.

When we sailed with our then 8 month old, we brought the ready made nursette bottles like you get in the hospital. They are a little more pricey than the usual formula we used at home(the liquid concentrate), but it was well worth it for the convenience. There was no worry about keeping cool or heating up. There was also no mixing, measuring, washing, etc...

Why bother heating bottles? Babies don't have to have warm bottles. I gave bottles to my daughter right out of the fridge.

Whenever we traveled or went on long day trips, I always used bottled spring water & mixed that w/ the powdered formula. Even though my little ones were used to heated formula, they never seemed to mind the room temp formula.

My DS also likes his bottles warm. I would fill them with milk and then run them under hot water for a few minutes. But we also use 4 oz bottles so it didn't take long to heat them.

I did that most of the time too, never heated them up from day one so she wasn't used to it anyway. But when we traveled I would buy those 4 oz nursettes and the disposible nipples so use the bottle and nipple once and toss it away on vacation and they were room temp.

I heated them by filling the sink in the bathroom with hot water and then putting the bottle in it. It only took a few minutes because I would fill the sink so the water covered all of the bottle but the nipple and because the liners is much thinner than a plastic bottle it warmed really fast.
I could never give my kids cold milk either.

Take the powdered formula and use warm water from the sink to mix the bottles.

They might DIE if they had cold milk. Horrors! My kids still harbor deep resentment toward me for giving them cold milk.

Um. Thanks for the helpful remarks, kpgclark. DS has become accustomed to lukewarm bottles, so that's what he expects. I also give him snuggles and kisses, but I'm wierd that way.

At home, we use an avent bottle warmer to warm the bottles (takes a little longer than microwave). It is small enough that you should be able to pack it. Maybe bring something like this? I'm sure the staff would be happy to heat the bottles for you, but who wants to wait for someone to heat their bottle in the middle of the night!

By the way, once you work out all this logistical stuff, it really is fun to cruise with an infant. It just takes more planning in the beginning.

I second the idea of warming the bottle in the bathroom sink, but here's some other thoughts. Take along a large plastic cup to soak the hot water in if you don't want to use the bathroom sink. You could have room svc. deliver to you a pint of hot water and soak the bottle in it until warm. .....Good luck.

You've been getting some great ideas. When we cruised along with our 11 month old dd we also needed to give her a bottle reasonably warm. We used the room temperature water mixed with formula and put it in hot water. Instead of using the sink however, we brought a thermos that had a large cap as a cup and heated the bottle with it. A good thermos will keep your water very hot for a decent period of time.

Also, don't forget to bring along a bottle drying rack and a small bottle of dishwashing soap. It was a real life saver for me to be able to dry and store her bottles in.

Do you use milk or formula? My DS drinks his milk right before bed but for some reason he doesn't like the milk from deck 9. We would ask our server for milk in the dining room and take it back to the room.

We would just call room service every night and have them deliver a few containers of milk and then keep 2 extras in the ice bucket with ice for hte morning when she got up. We ordered milk and cookies every night before she went to bed, she still talks about that!
