Heat wave - how does it compare to Orlando in late August?

We're in the GTA, suffering through this heat wave.

For those who have visiting WDW in the summer (specifically late August, which is a time of year we're debating returning to Disney), how does the recent temperatures of the heat wave compare to how hot it is in Orlando during the summer months?

Thanks in advance

It's comparable, but a little more humid. The first day is hard, but you get used to it afterwards. Drink plenty of water. Don't over do it.Take breaks. That saved us.....

I echo the 'taking breaks' advice...also, we always had a nice meal each day and that helped for some relaxation.

I'd say the weather in Orlando is much more bearable than here mainly because nearly every ride, restaurant, means of transportation have AC:) And you know, that you know, that you know that at the end of the day even if you're going to freeze in the bus on the return to your hotel you will sleep in the confort in a well cooled room :lmao:

I guess we're not use to that much of heat (heck! we get snow even in Spring!!!)I wouldn't worry much about it, drink a lot of water, use the bench in the parks, cool under the shades of the trees or inside the attractions, etc. and you'll be just fine ;)

we went last week of august to first week of semptember and I found it much more bearable than here BUT at WDW we swam...no pool here

We did am at park by 12-1 we went to pool and back out inthe evening and it was great. Did I mention I like the snow and really mind the heat. It was not as bad as I had read on here. I almost cancelled my trip after all the "it is so hot" threads but glad I did not as we loved it and book the same time this year give or take a few weeks.

Well I think it was crazy hot compared to our heatwave in part due to the high humidity. I did get used to the heat but never got used to the sticky feeling of my skin being wet all the time and every little hair sticking to my arm. Hated it. But hey, I dealt, cause I was at Disney. :cool2:

From what I am hearing the "feels like" temps are about the same as they were in June when Orlando was having unseasonably high heat (more like they get in August). You learn to find a/c when you need it and get out of the mid-day heat (go to the pool, have a table service lunch etc.)

We've been twice in August and boy, it sure feels like we're going through! When we're in WDW,I always say to DH... "how do people work day in and day out in weather like this?" I've been syaing the same thing as I work through this week! BUT I LOVE IT!!!!!

For the last 3 days I have walked home from work (30 min walk) After about 20 min I start sweating. In Orlando, I walk out of the hotel and start sweating right away. But like previous posters stated, it is completely bearable due to lots of air conditioned rides and attractions. You really can cool down all throughout the day.

Very similar. I lived in Orlando and in the summer the temp went up by the hour. At 7am it was in the 70s, 8am in the 80s and by 9am it was in the 90s.

But in those hot summer months you usually get a shower in the afternoon to take the edge off.

Suffering?!? Dude - are you serious? lol...sorry but I'll take this ANY day over the 3 feet of snow. :lmao:

Me too!! But as much as I couldn't stand the humidity of Disney in August the air conditioning and showers made it bearable. I had read on here to take rain ponchos but when it downpoured we just got soaked to cool off. We dried off in about 10 mins so it was all good.

Did LOVE the swimming at 1 am and not being cold. So I guess I would do it again if I had to. :cool2:

Exactly.

You have to remember that summer here is like winter in most of Canada - it's long, uncomfortable and something that has to be adapted to. Like in the same way Canadians have adapted to winter with indoor heating, coats and underground tunnels, Floridians adapt to summer with A/C, oversized clothing, etc.

It regularly breaks 35-40°C here during the summer (with and without humidity), but it doesn't cause quite the stir as it is currently the case in eastern Ontario and southwestern Quebec. Though on the other hand, we get one little snow flurry and I wake up to news about how every road in Metro Orlando has been shut down :rotfl:.

You must have air conditioning at home.

Exactly what I was thinking. Going from an air conditioned building to you car to your air conditioned home is one thing but not having air conditioning IS true suffering. Especially for seniors, animals and children but as well for the general population. Whether you are too hot or too cold the effects can be deadly for some. No joke.
