Here goes nothin'....I stumbled across this board and felt like I had found my place. I guess I should start with an introduction. My name is Tammy and I'm a 38 year old single mother of a 14 yr old young man whom is giving me a run for my money. I am also newly single thus the heartache in my title.

Here is some background, I was very thin growing up and then in my 20 I began to fill out. I like the extra curves so it never bothered me to much and I was never more than about 20 over what I should have been. After I had my son I put on a few more pounds but still manageable.
I would gain and lose and gain and lose. I met someone about 6 years ago and fell head over heels. Now I have to say that not everything that went wrong in our relationship was his fault but the way it was ended was nothing but him. We had been having some problems and I thought we were on our way to working things out when I got a call two weeks ago from a mutual friend telling me that my fiance had gotten married to someone else. Can you say devastation:sad:. Now believe me this is not why I gained almost 100 pounds in the last two years but it is now the reason that I looked at myself in the mirror and said enough is enough. I have to get healthy no way around it my health and well being is on the line.

I am not looking for sympathy, what I will need from all of you is a good old fashioned kick in the pants. I may whine and cry and moan and groan:sad1: but I need you to be hard on me and make sure that I don't fizz out.

I began an exercise regime:yay: that I found in a Prevention magazine that has you add more each week to your cardio and toning. I am on week three and I am very happy so far because week three is usually where I start making excuses for not exercising. I have lost right at 10 pounds and 9 total inches:teacher: so far. I weigh and measure every Sunday so that is when I will be updating either Sunday night or Monday morning every week.

I look forward to hearing from everyone and getting to know some new folks. I welcome your thoughts, comments, suggestions, and old fashioned kick in the pants.:cool1:

Tammy- Welcome! You will find some good support here.Congrats on the 10 lbs and 9 inches.

I am a huge Jillian Michaels fan,Try signing up for her free newsletter online, it keeps me motivated to read little snipits from her a couple times a week.Have you heard of 30 day shred? It is a good one and it works.
Remember you can't do this diet alone you HAVE to do cardio and adding weights increasing your metabolism therefore fat burn.I read back and saw that you were doing that- keep it up!

Good luck and keep posting it does help to write it all out.

Linda

This is a great place to stay motivated! I know what you mean because I was always a skinny-minnie when young and then gained the pounds in my twenties. Now that 50 is approaching in a few years I am getting serious about getting healthy (I have some bad family health history as motivation).

Sounds like you've made a good start so far. Keep the success going! :thumbsup2
