Hearing screaming noises in the woods at night?

It's about 11pm where I'm at, and I am currently hearing these weird, screaming noises in my backyard. I live in a rural area, and there are no other houses near me, nothing but woods and trees. What could be making this sound? It's causing my dogs to go crazy at night.

Raccoons. One night, we heard terrible screaming from the edge of our back yard, where it meets the woods. All I could imagine was that a bear was destroying a dog; it was horrifying. DH went outside with his power flashlight to discover two big old raccoons up in the branches of a maple tree, having it out with each other. It was AWFUL to listen to.

could be an injured animal, deer or something like it.

Or of course, a Chupacabra. Probably this is the answer.

Foxes can also sound like screaming.

I was about to suggest that. Foxes can make some really weird noises.

We had an old Siamese tom cat that brawled every night -- a lot of caterwauling.

Lots of possibilities, as noted above. Porcupine is another option. They can be loud!

Could be a pack of coyotes. They can make a lot of racket, and it does frighten domestic dogs.

Same thing happens by me in the forest next to my house. I was told by my friends that are hunters, that it could be rabbits, or another animal, as they are being attacked by coyotes. For those that’s never heard this, it is a terrible sound - very unsettling. By me, I normally hear the barking of coyotes, like a pack of them, while this is happening or soon after it is happening

I would also say fisher cats. We have them here and it sounds horrific.

Fisher cat or Red Fox.... they are both creepy at night...

The one that sounds like a horse whinnying is usually a screech owl...

Don't like large cats such as cougars do that as well... I definitely would not be going outside to check it out.
