Is there such a thing as a healthy frozen meal? What are your frozen faves from Whole Foods??

What is your definition of healthy? Organic? No GMOs? No artificial colors or flavors?

Personally any pre-prepared food isn't healthy in my book. Freshly prepared has the most nutrition.

I have to eat gluten free and buy some frozen meals from WF. We buy Amy's and evol bowls. Amys has quite a few organic meals stuffed with veggies. We love her enchiladas and lasagna. The Evol bowls are more stir fry that we get. Again for frozen meals they are healthier. They are typically more expensive though. And I'm sure they all offer some less healthy options too but there seems to be a decent selection.

Not artifical colors/flavors, non gmo type stuff

Amys Kitchen is non gmo and evol foods says their food is non gmo although I think it's still being verified. I also love Nature's Path frozen waffles that are non gmo.

I've lately tried some Amy's meals but I will say I was not impressed. I got the cheese enchilada one and it was so greasy I wanted to be sick. I couldn't even eat it. Maybe the others with less cheese are better?

We only buy the black bean enchilada style. We bought the cheese once but they did seem greasy. We have the mac and cheese occasionally but they are very cheesy.

I like Amy's stuff though I am terrible at microwaving the burritos..! The only other thing we have really tried is frozen fish sticks and butternut squash ravioli from companies who's names escape me - because those are too much hassle to make at home. They were very delicious and although I don't know if I would call the fish sticks "healthy", they definitely didn't have added stuff in them. We prescribe to the 'everything in moderation' method of food and just try to eat "clean" most days and varied moreso than "healthy".

Amy's burritos are tasty, but don't follow the directions on the package for heating. They will still be frozen in the middle. I roll them in a paper towel and microwave for at least 1 minute per side, sometimes longer.

I don't know if this qualifies, but when they have the BOGO deals on their soup, I buy some and freeze them. FYI, chili is included in the sale.

If you are looking for something healthy, your best bet is to make your own stuff and freeze it. Processed foods are still processed, even if they slap he word organic on them.

Eh, if the ingredients in it are what you would put in it then there is nothing more processed about it.

So is everything you make. Unless you just eat whole pieces of fruit and uncooked meat. Actually, make that unbutchered meat because technically, making the beef into steaks or fish into fillets is still processing.

Processed does not mean unhealthy.

Non-processed does not mean healthy.

To say otherwise is overly simplistic.

If a company makes a soup with broth, salt, chicken, and vegetables and freezes it... it really is no different then the soup I make and then freeze.

I really like the Amy's frozen meals and burritos but I buy them at Target when they are on sale! I also love Amy's canned black bean soup! I often take it to work for lunch!
