Health measures on a past 7nighter

I just read an article about a 7n cruise over Thanksgiving that in the middle of the cruise went into covid modus for example no hugs and autographs for characters, adapted crafts etc.
Anyone who sailed on that cruise and can tell more?

I was on the Disney Magic during Thanksgiving break and the cruise altered their protocol from Self Service to Full Service. On about day 4, there were cast members serving drinks at the drink station. Cast members were also serving the food at Cabanas. No more autographs either. I asked cast member why this was happening and he said, "sanitary reasons." Later on, we needed a new comforter for the bed because my son spilled food on it. Housekeeping said there was a stomach bug and many people were feeling ill. My family and I did not get sick. It was still a great trip

Perhaps they should make this the "standard" protocol if for "sanitary reasons"!

With noro and covid, based on other cruise line forums, cruise lines are NOT bashful about increasing protocols if there is any indication of any health issue.
We had noro precautions on our cruise on the Magic way back in December 2003 so that is something cruise ships have lots of experience with.

Sounds very similar to what happened when a family who sat near us got something that was at least suspected to be norovirus (this was pre-COVID days). They cleared off the table, including linens and tableware, put it into a hazmat bag, and they were all suited up while doing that. Immediately the buffet was no longer self-serve, the ice cream was no longer self-serve, and the drink station on deck was no longer self-serve. Can't speak to the character interactions since we don't do that.

We had a similar experience on our first Disney cruise in Feb 2007. CMs served the food in the buffet, drink station and ice cream stations. They weren't shy about explaining why, which we appreciated. It's better to know than to be left in the dark.

It'd be so nice if they just always served the drinks, ice creams, and buffets. Then we wouldn't have so much illness on cruises.
I've only ever been in the Wish and that's part of why we really liked it. My wife and I really like how Marceline Market isn't self serve and how Minnies Ice Cream is handed to you. Just seems more sanitary to me than thousands of people touching the same serving utensils.

I agree. They have the staffing for it. There was 2-3 cast members serving drinks and many at Cabanas.

When they were still using Covid-19 precautions, cast members always served ice cream, fountain drinks, and buffet food. It was fantastic. The three cruises that I took during that time are the only ones that didn't make me sick!
