Heads up for anyone interested in doing the Richard Petty Driving Experience

I called this morning and got the Rookie for $199.99 plus tax.

DH is so excited! Thanks for posting the great deal!

I love these boards!!!!!!

For those not in the GA/FL area, how were you able to book the $199 Rookie Experience? We tried a couple of times, but was always told that we needed a code (they'd book it for us if we had the code).

We're trying to book this for my FIL for his birthday. The $199 was just right, but $350 is a little steep for us. He's a huge racing fan and car enthusiast in general, so this would be the perfect gift for him.

Thanks!

EeyoreJMH: When I first called I was told there was no $199 rate. I said someone I knew had rec'd a post card about it. She put me on hold and came back and said she could give me the $199 rate (plus tax). My cc has already been charged and I rec'd the paperwork a few days after calling. I then called back again to book for my father-in-law and got a different clerk. She also had not heard of the $199 rate. I told her the same thing that I told the first clerk. She put me on hold and gave me the $199 rate when she came back. No one ever asked me for a code.

Sorry you are having such a hard time. :( Keep trying and good luck!

When I called the number I asked for reservations. "Amy" said she could help me. I told her my DH had received a mailer about the Rookie experience for $199. I told her I was trying to surprise him for his Birthday and wanted to know if she could hook me up. I told her I thought there was a code, but I couldn't find the mailer anymore and did not know the code off hand.

She asked me what day and time I had in mind and there was no problem. Your credit card will be billed right away and we have already received the confirmation and forms to fill out prior to driving. I think with tax it came to $211.92 and the confirmation letter has no price listed. So, once you book it and it is paid for you are in like flynn.

DH has been telling everyone about his birthday gift. He can hardly wait. Only 3 weeks to go!

Yep the charge goes thru right away!

When I originally called she did not ask about any code but put me on hold and then told me I could get that rate!

I had left a message for them to call back but could not wait for fear of it booking up. When they did call me back she mentioned that they had sent out a few cards with codes but I said the girl I spoke with in the am took care of everything!

Keep trying!

Thank you so much for posting this info...my DH and brother-in-law want to do this when we go in December and DS and I have been cringing at the cost...I can't wait to call her tomorrow to give her the news! I love finding "sales"! I requested the Orlando Magicard because Mousesavers said they give 10% off the experience, but this is so much better! I just hope we don't have a problem booking because we are not FL or GA residents. It doesn't seem like the majority of you have, right?:)

Thank you thank you thank you!!!!! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

We were able to reserve the Rookie Experience yesterday at the $199 rate for our October trip (this will be a wonderful birthday present!).

Just finished designing a RP & Mickey gift certificate with the Mickey Print Artist and now we can't wait to give this certificate later today. My FIL wanted to do this so much the last few times we were there, but we couldn't justify the cost, so thank you all for this wonderful information-- a pixie dust dream

:hyper:

I just booked this with the discounted rate for Dave! He's going to flip out! :hyper: OMG I'm so excited, I just had to tell someone.

He's booked for Sept 17. I told him we couldn't afford it and he was ok with that. He's going to freak out when he finds out. How should I tell him? When should I tell him? Before we get to Florida? On the plane? After we get there? On the way to the track? So many possibilities. I'm so excited I'm going to explode and I'm not even the one that will be doing it! I'm going to start a new thread for ideas.

Thanks for the info about this discount. Holy cow.

(Good thing he doesn't read the board! He only looks at the posts that I point out to him)

We just got back yesterday. My DH LOVED his driving experience. His first time was cancelled due to rain and we rescheduled for the morning time. A lot of rescheduling due to afternoon thunderstorms.

Highly recommend the experience!

For anyone who has done this: I just booked the $199 rate yesterday for October, but I received no confirmation number or anything. She told me just to show up. Does this sound right? I guess I'm just concerned that I have no proof of what date I requested.

I was able to participate in the Rookie Driving Experience in June 2004 at Lowes Motor Speedway. The experience was awesome !!! I'm sure that you all will not regret participating in or purchasing this package for a loved one.

I was given a confirmation number and was told I will be receiving a packet in the mail in 5-10 days.

You should have been given a confirmation number. The you will receive a letter in the mail with the confirmation letter, forms to read and waivers to sign. Take the entire packet with you when you check in and have everything filled out.

my friend and i are wanting to book this for our husbands. how fast does this book? we are going the first week in december. should i book now? i will definitely book before 9/15, but was waiting til early next week. how many are on the track at a time?

Okay - I called them back just now and was told that they automatically send out the packet and that they don't normally give out a confirmation number (? ? ? ?). She said they can just check by the driver's name. So, I asked her if she would doublecheck just to make me feel comfortable, gave her DH's name, and everything came up. So, I feel better now - but the confirmation number issue is kinda strange. She would I would be receiving a packet in about 7-10 days though.

Geez, if DH checks the mailbox, I'm in big trouble! I was going to do this as a surprise for his birthday this past May, but he went a bought a new guitar - so there went the money. We're going back in October and when I saw this post about the great deal, I just couldn't pass it up because he really wants to do it. Ironically, he'll be driving on my birthday now - guess that's my birthday present now -

kbkids, i know what you mean! we are trying to keep this a surprise for our husbands, but a lot of the time my husband brings in the mail!! yikes!

I just called and asked about the special. She said yes we have one 199.00. Took my info. and is sending me a packet in the mail.

This is also a surprise for hubby. He is a drag racer so I hope he remembers he needs to turn the wheel and not go straight. Ha

The first class my DH was in only had 7 people. They offered 8 additional laps for $199, ride along for anyone for $79, and they drove the kids around the track in a van for FREE. We even received a FREE rookie card with my DD in front of a race car.
Then they were rained out. We rescheduled for later in the week and in the morning instead of the afternoon.

The next class was full. Looked to be about 20 drivers. They offered no little extras.

The driver drives behind a lead car. They have 3 sets of drivers at a time. So, 6 cars on the track at the same time. Very safe! My DH had the best lap time and was going 122 mph. For the rookie experience that is about as fast as they go. He said he would have liked to go faster, but was very happy. He would do it again!

They take photos of you by a race car and when you are strapped in. You are given a lap sheet with times and MPH. Then a certificate with your fastest time on it. Of course if you buy the photos and the plaque they display them in it runs another $75. DH had to purchase THAT for himself. His birthday present was finished!
