We are finally getting ready to go to Disney, and now I am concerned about where to store my film while in transit. We are flying to Disney and I thought I read recently not to put unused or used film in your luggage that will be checked due to the new x-ray checking machines. For those who have flown recently, where should I put my film? Should I put it in my carry-on or pack it with my luggage. Should I do the same on the return flight. I am just terrified I will take all of these pictures and then they will be ruined somehow by me packing them the wrong way.

Thanks for your help

I am a pre-board screener and get asked this question a hundred times daily. Do NOT put any kind of film in your checked luggage!!!The x-rays are very powerful and will wipe out your pictures. Bring your film with you in your carry on bag. Most x-ray machines are safe for film up to 800 speed. Most people use 100-400 speed film. If you know you will be putting your film in x-rays more than 5 times, ask for a hand inspection of your film.

So, if you are just going to wdw and back, your film will go through the x-ray twice, no damage will be done and your pictures will be safe. Let's say if you are going to WDW, then on a cruise with several ports and you are bringing film to the island, your film will be going through the x-ray many times, just ask for a hand inspection. Just remember that all airports are different and even each screening guard will be different. Some have attitudes, some are very helpful. Just ask very politely and you shouldn't have a problem.

Hope that helps!

For hand inspections, it also helps(less negative attitudes) if you take the film out of the box and put it in a large Ziploc bag. You can even take the film out of the little canisters and put all of the parts in the baggie. Then when you get on the plane you can put them back into the cnisters. This makes it easier for the person to see.
