Does anyone know if headphones you bring with you will fit the airplane jacks. :confused3 I know they use to sell headphones on the plane. But if I can bring some from home and have them work! Saves me money! Any one know what they cost now (on the planes)? We leave in less than two days - can't wait. Thanks for your help. :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :cheer2:

The last time I used headphones on a Northwest flight they were two pronged to fit into the two pronged jack. I do not know if regular ones would fit. Hope that helps.

Julie

ETA: I am not sure if my last flight was Northwest or Suncountry, sorry for the possible bad info.

I don't believe that they fit on UAL...but UAL doesn't charge for theirs.

you should be able to buy adapters for a few bucks- do a search for something like airplane headphone adapters. I bought 2 pairs of noise cancelling headphones a few years ago and they came with adapters for airline use. The 2 prong units seem common although many planes use the regular type plug.

The headphones and the rules for their use are different on different airlines and different aircraft.

For example, on American Airlines, the seats have standard stereo headphone jacks (the same as you'd find on a Walkman). If you don't have your own headphones, American sells them for $2 in coach. When you pay $2, they're yours to keep. However, the workhorse aircraft serving Chicago O'Hare -- the MD80 (or Super 80, as AA calls it) -- has no audio system at all.

FYI-Song gives you the headphones for free, and you can keep them too.

Northwest had standard headphone jacks. I bought a cheap pair at the dollar store and they worked fine.

The last flight I was on (Delta) they sold the headphones for $2. You get to keep them for your next trip. :cool1:

if they are single or 2 prong? And the same for JetBlue?

We are flying JetBlue next Friday to MCO and then Song in November. While we love the TV at every seat, my kids have trouble with the in ear free headphone they give out. I want to bring along some from home that are more over the ear rather than in the ear.

Anyone know about these particular airlines?

Thanks.

Don't remember about JetBlue, we only flew them once. Song has the one-prong headphones and they work fine on my Walkman and at my gym.

Just be aware that Song has earbuds - not headphones. I always bring my Sony headphones(1 prong) from my walkman for the plane as I like to wear the Earplanes, plus, I have tiny ears so the earbuds are not very comfortable. But, they are free on Song and you get to keep them!

I've flown both Song and JetBlue--they both have standard mini headphone jacks (like on a walkman or other portable device). DS dislikes the earbud headphones as well, I think his ears are just too little, so we always bring our own along.

This means I can take ds#1's headphones from his VideoNow player so he can use them. I'm not sure what I'll use for ds#2 (almost 3) since he's never really used anything like that, but I know the earbuds don't work from our flight on Song in December...his little ears are just too small.

Thanks for this info.

Yep, your DS#1's headphones from his Video Now will work just fine. My DS uses his with his Gameboy when we are in the terminal (no need for EVERYONE to have to listen to the stylings of Crash Bandicoot :rotfl: ).

For your DS#2, you can get cheap (and I do mean CHEAP) headphones for hime. We bought DS a 'decent' pair of Sony's from Target, and they were under $10, I have seen $5 ones at our local 'junk stores' And let's face it, the 3 year old does not quite have the most discerning ear, and he's probably not interested in the best sound quality......

A little off topic but I see you're from NJ, did you know that Song is cancelling the route from EWR to MCO as of Sept. 5. I read this on another thread and just thought I'd give you the heads up if you don't already know. Good luck. :cool1:
