We have never been to HDDR and really want to do it this trip! We were thinking of going on the day of arrival, which is a day we were not planning to go to a park. Do you need to use a day of your park ticket to get there or is it actually not in a park? :confused3

No park ticket needed for HDDR as it is at Fort Wilderness not one of the parks.

While you don't need a park ticket to do this. It is a pay ahead meal with a 24 or 48 hour cancel policy. If for some reason you are delayed you may not get you money back. FWIW:)

No need for a park ticket, BUT....

Going on your arrival day is not something *I* would do. You have to cancel 24 or 48 hours (can't remember which) in advance, and all kinds of things can go wrong on your arrival day to cause you to be late, including plane delays or cancellations.

Personally speaking, I'd schedule it for your 2nd day or later and do something like Chef Mickey or 1900 Park Fare or some other such place for your first night if you don't want to go to the parks.

Appreciate the feedback! And so quickly!! We are not flying this trip and we are actually staying in Jacksonville with family the night before so arrival should not be a problem. :)

We always go to HDD on our first night, even if we go to a park first. IMO, it's a great way to kick off a WDW vacation! :)

Where are you staying? Generally, the easist way to get to Fort Wilderness for the HDDR, is to take a bus from your resort to the MK and then take the boat to FW. You do not need to enter the MK to use the transportation there.
Even if you were to drive to FW, you would have to park near the entrance and wait for an internal bus to Pioneer Hall for dinner. The boat ride is more enjoyable.
Also if you are going to the 7:15 or 9:30 shows, there are buses lined up after the show to take you directly back to your resort.
Enjoy - We love the HDDR
