HDDR and MBYBBQ? Too similar?

We are a party of 6 on the DxDDP. DH and I, and kids ages 11, 9, 4, and 3. We loved the HDDR and it is on our must do list for this trip. We were also thinking of trying MBYBBQ for the younger ones. I watched some videos of the bbq, and I think the little ones would enjoy it. We would do it on our first night there. If we plan the HDDR for the end of our week, do you think it would be enough space between them? Or are they similar enough that we should just stick with the HDDR?

I've gone to both, and I think you would be OK having one at the beginning and one at the end. While they are similar, they are not the same show. I prefer Hoop Dee Doo quite a bit more, but I think the Backyard BBQ is good (geared more towards younger kids with Disney characters) and worth doing if you haven't done it before.

We love Mickey's Backyard BBQ...it was so much fun when we were there last time, my kids had a blast! My toddler had fun dancing around the dance floor with the characters and my older son LOVED the lasso guy with all his tricks, lol...I have never been to HDDR but we are considering it for our next trip, depending on where we stay, lol...If we stay at Wilderness Lodge or Animal Kingdom we are planning HDDR, if we decide to stay at either Contemporary or Polynesian we are going to shoot for Spirit of Aloha and if we stay at Beach/Yacht Club we are just going to eat at Yachtsmans Steakhouse. We are planning on doing Mickey's Backyard BBQ regardless of where we stay though, lol...We are also going to have the Deluxe meal plan as well.

Similar food only. MBBBQ is outdoors with a band and dancing and characters. Plus you can go to the buffet. HDDR is brought to you at a table and they don the hokey pokey.

MBBBQ has no goggling chick either.

I think they're completely different. Different food and experience. We really enjoyed HDDMR and although my kids, 3 and 6 loved MBYBBQ, my DH and I hated it. I just kept thinking the whole time, I could be eating lobster at narcoosses and watching wishes for the same price (we had DxDDP too). But now we know it's just not for us and we can say, we did it.

The food may be similar but it ends there. We were not fans, but that was because my DGD was not at all comfortable participating in a big dance party. My friend just returned and I recommended the BBQ to her for her boys, and they loved it. You need to know your family dynamics and decide if the kids woud enjoy the kind of interaction that teh BBQ presents.

I am in total agreement with NicoleLArson...Narcoossees is my choice! LOL!
