HBO's Game of Thrones Season 5....current episodes, no future spoilers

I did read one reason why they have to write it differently than the books is because they can't afford to pay the actors during the books when they have very little to do.

I don't like that. I love the books and will be irked to see them stray. There are some characters the show could eliminate because, as we know, our friend (GM), likes to ramble sometimes and add character after character. Otherwise, I wish the show would follow closely to the books.
Honestly, I think it will be very confusing for those of us that have read the books if the show plot differs very much. I mean really, what can they do with the on-going characters who's stories are already entrenched book-to-book? Won't that seriously mess with continuity?

True. Wish GM would get the next book out.
:sad1: I just googled it again tonight and the publisher has officially declared that there will not be a new volume published in 2015. They haven't made any promises about a release date in 2016 either. There will be (apparently) an anthology of short stories published in one volume that is supposed to be a "prequel" to the first book. These stories have existed for some time but I've never sought them out. I'll likely read them if they're released together sometime soon.

It does seem like they are going to differ a lot as last night strayed a bit from what I recall (maybe I need to go back and re-read some). Uggghhh! Hate to say it but I honestly think GM will pass before he finishes writing the series.

It could happen. One can only hope somebody is "grooming a successor" just in case like Robert Jordan's wife did with Brandon Sanderson so the Wheel of Time epic could be concluded.

I heard he has given the summary to the writers of the show so they can continue the show. Not sure if that's true.

Another book reader/reluctant watcher.

I understand the necessity to take another direction, but at the expense of the personality of the characters. Martin created such rich and complex characters and the show makes them so one dimensional.

Locations were beautiful in last night's episode, but not loving this season so far.

Here is an article that counters your opinion. The writer is actually glad the writers have cut out parts to keep the story from bogging down.

I have to say as each season is only 10 episodes long, I would hate to have too many story lines/characters competing for that limited space.

I am actually really liking it so far, as I can tell they are setting up things to come in future episodes.

On another note, prince Doran Martell is being played by Alexander Siddig. Who played Dr Bashir on Deep Space Nine. I originally thought it was James Callis who played Baltar on Battlestar.

Last night...liked the scene with Cersei and Margaery but the new queen should tread carefully as Cersei is a tough cookie to contend with. She will soon snap out of the fog she's been in and there will be hell to pay for the new queen. The Tommen and Margaery bed scene was yucky. Was creepy to realize he was like 8 in the books. Gross. Also interested, even though it's a big change from the books, to see what happens with Sansa. Very grossed out that she has to marry that sicko, Ramsey. I HOPE HOPE HOPE he doesn't torture her. I hope Little Finger gets what he deserves, that creepy jerk! Good episode last night!

I think I'm the only one who loves Ramsey! He cracks me up.

Still love me some Jon Snow. I need him to move to a summer location so he's a little less covered up:rolleyes1

Yep. Yep. Yep. He is, and I haven't gotten to that scene in the books yet (if its in there) but I'm glad that they made him older in the show. He was originally played by another actor in the first few seasons who was around the proper age in the books.

I'm worried for Sansa. I just started to like her this past season and she's put with the next best character to hate after Joffrey. Auuugh.

The show is finally picking up. I'm super excited for next weeks episode. Yay!

I haven't read the books so I could be WAY off, but I think Sansa and Ramsey could make a good duo! He's psycho and she has this huge vendetta...It could work in their favor.

I'm always the odd man out with my character preferences.
<<<<<< Obviously. (I'm probably the only person alive that loves the new Joker.)

Besides Jon Snow, Ramsey and Cersei are my favorite characters. :rotfl: I would totally love Little Finger if he didn't talk out of the side of his mouth. I HATE that.

For real. That first dig about the wine was great but then Margaery just kept pushing and pushing. Which I love, don't get me wrong, but that's going to land her in hot water before too long.

Jon Snow is STONE COLD. I loved how Thorne just basically looked at Slynt like "you're on your own now, bro."

Forgot about the beheading...not sure how I could forget that. That was shocking to see. Again, a lot like Margaery, this is going to come back an bite him. These young upstarts :sad2: are being a little reckless.
