Haylie's MAW/GKTW Trip in Feb. 2011

What beautiful girls you have and what a strong girl Haylie is! I am so happy for your family that she is getting her wish and awesome news about BBB for the girls, so cool. We will be there just before you in February and I am counting on the holidays helping the time fly by because I am already pretty excited! I look forward to following your trip planning.

Made my first reservation! We'll be going to Chef Mickey's! Makes it feel a little more real now! My eight year old daughter will be celebrating her birthday there as well. Any advice on where to eat? :hippie:

Sooo......I am finally starting to make an itenerary for our trip. :yay: The Sunday that we arrive, we come in around 11am, so we were thinking of spending the remainder of that day at GKTW, then maybe in the evening, we may head to Downtown Disney.

My question is, since we will be there in February, I think the parks close a little earlier in the evening. Is there always something going on at GKTW in the evening. I have heard a few things about Village Idol and Double Dare, but am not sure if those things happen only during the day.

I would appreciat any input! :dance3:

Hi we found a schedule on the GKTW website I do not know if it stays the same but I will attach the link here so that you can look & maybe it will help you out. http://www.gktw.org/pre/village/schedule.asp?p=village there seems to be alot that goes on in the evening in the village. :)

I saw your other post about Chef Mickey's we made reservations there as well .

Thanks 2 Girls! Looks like so much fun at GKTW that we'll have to spend at least one full day there just exploring all there is to do!

Where do you live in NY? We live in IL, but Haylie has her surgeries at Roosevelt Hospital in the city. We will actually be going back next week for another one.

I have a family member that is a DW pro and she says that you MUST go to Chef Mickey's. Plus my Haylie loves Pluto (or Klutol, as she calls him). Still debating on spending so much for Cinderella's Castle. I'd like to save most of our money on souvenirs. I know I need one more special dinner for Joscelyn's birthday, but not sure where. We were thinking either 50's Prime Time (I think she'd get a kick out of that) or the Sci-fi Dinner Theatre. Any advice for someone that's been to both?

Thanks 2Kids! We are really hoping that after this one (her 14th surgery), this malformation will start shrinking already! :cutie:

I just wanted to share with everyone how Haylie's surgery in NYC went last week. The surgery itself was very successful. Later the next night, she started projectile vomiting so she had to have an emergency CT scan to rule out any strokes or hemmorages. Thank God, nothing was found. She continued to vomit until Saturday, but by Saturday afternoon, the vomiting ceased. We were discharged on Sunday morning and she continues to have terrible headaches as her entire brain is revascularizing after the surgery. We are giving her Tylenol with Codeine and that seems to help a little. I wish I could trade places with her and endure everything she has to go thru. I would gladly do it if I could. Seeing her in so much pain is excrutiatingly painful.

Please continue to pray that her pain subsides quickly. I appreciate everyone's kind words

Glad to hear Haylie's surgery went well but I am so sorry to hear she is experiencing so much pain. I know what you mean about wanting to trade places...it is so hard to know your baby is suffering and you can't totally fix it. I will be thinking of you all and hoping she feels better really soon. Take care.:grouphug:

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. With Haylie's surgery and complications, not to mention Christmas, I have been crazy busy! Good news is that it's all over now and it's time to start planning, planning, planning. We've decided to go to Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure and Seaworld the first part of the week as it's President's Day week, so it looks like the Disney parks will be a little less crowded towards the end of the week.

Anywhoo, is there any "must dos" at Universal or Seaworld. I don't know too much about those parks, so any advice is appreciated. Please keep in mind that my 8 year old LOVES roller coasters, but Haylie cannot ride anything with any g-force.

Can't wait to hear from everyone!!! :cool1:

Glad to hear that everything is over for you & now you can focus on your magical trip.... :cool1:
We are going on our trip in March so I have not done alot of planning as of yet but I have heard that feeding the dolphins at Seaworld is really cool.... so we are planning to do that.
If I find any more info out I will let you know.... :thumbsup2

Hello Everyone! We are starting the countdown for our trip and can't wait! I have our days pretty much figured out, but I do have a couple questions.

1. Is the Sharks Underwater Grill at Seaworld worth making reservations for?

2. For anyone that's had MAW throw a going away party to celebrate with friends and family, what usually happens?

Thanks for advice!

Hi Lisa,
Sorry I can't be of help with your first question but I do have a bit of info on your second one since I just talked with our wish granter about it yesterday as we were planning Chelsea's Send Off. I will say that from reading other PTR and TR it sounds like this can really vary from chapter to chapter however. We were told we could go to a restaurant or have something at our house and it could be for about 12 people including us and our wish granters. After talking it over with our wish granter and her describing that they have about 20 min of things to cover with us about the trip I decided Pizza from our favorite nearby place and an ice cream cake at our house sounded perfect for us so the kids can run around and play while we cover everything. We planned it for about a week and a half before we leave for our trip. I hope that helps. Have a great day!

Thanks Fulsesmama! I think we may be having one too and just want to know what we can expect.

Does anyone have any reccomendations for good restaurants at SeaWorld and Universal?

TIA!!!! :cool1:

At the beginning of the wish process we were told the party was a big deal and they would have food and gifts..... balloons and family could come. When it came time for the send off party they were having problems with communication with volunteers. Not sure what happened but we almost had to go to the office to pick up our packet. In the end the same ladies that came out originally came back and brought food and gifts. No other family couuld come and there was a $ limit and if it was only enough to feed Alli then that was it.

I think it totally is dependent upon the chapter. I think ours was right before christmas and probably a bad time in everyones schedule. They did a great job. Check out my ptr and you can see some pics

Checking in, wondered how the trip plans are coming along :rolleyes1...it is almost time for your dream trip! :yay::woohoo::banana::banana::woohoo::yay: I am so excited for you!!! :woohoo::dance3::woohoo:

It's been so crazy around here trying to get ready for our trip! We have started the countdown and everyone is so excited! MAW is also throwing us a kick-off party at our local Rockford Ice Hogs hockey game the night before we leave. They have reserved a suite for us and family and friends and are even going to let Haylie go down on the ice with the team! We couldn't ask for anything more. We have been so blessed by this gift! 3 days after we return from Disney, we will be going back to NYC for Haylie's 15th brain surgery, so we are so excited to have a week of fun, fun, fun before being sucked back into reality! Thanks for checking in and I can't wait to post our trip report once we return (although that'll mean the trip is over, which is sad)!:goodvibes
