Hayes Family at WDW: Day 6 - Downtown Disney and Fantasmic
Friday, December 15th
We tried to sleep in but we all woke up around 7:30. Everyone was a little cranky. I had originally planned on eating at 1900 Park Faire for breakfast, but I cancelled it as I did not really want to do more character meals. We took a bus to Downtown Disney and stopped at Disney Quest. My kids are a little young for this but were able to enjoy a few rides and most of the things in the Create Zone (the songmaker and create a toy were especially fun). We were hungry and the only thing to eat there was cheesecake, which we gladly ate (it is our vacation after all). Disney Quest filled up very quickly even though we had gotten there as soon as it opened. We then went to the Marketplace for our lunch at the Rainforest Café. I had heard a lot of negative things about this, but wanted to try it anyway. I had made a PS by calling the restaurant directly, and we were seated as soon as we checked in. We had great service and really good food. This was the best lunch we ate all week. I was very pleasantly surprised after everything we had heard. Just goes to show that every restaurant has both good and bad days. After this we went to the Lego store and World of Disney where had fun buying souvenirs for the kids.
We went back to the hotel to try to rest, but were unable to get the kids to sleep. I had the dinner package for Fantasmic, but decided to cancel it since the parks had been so slow all week. We went to Fantasmic about 1/2 hour before the show and got great seats. When we got there, about 3/5th of the stadium was full, but we got seats directly in from of the last screen. The kids ate hot dogs while we waited for the show. We all really enjoyed this. If you are at Disney, do try to see this. On our way out, Sarah was trading a pin and Sam asked the cast member if he could have one of his pins. The cast member gave it to Sam, and wouldn't even accept a pin from me in return - very nice treat for Sam. Before boarding the boat back, the boat captain said she liked one of Sarah's pins (she was wearing the lanyard most of the time). Sarah gave the pin to her and I think Millie (the boat captain) was really surprised. She wanted to give Sarah something in return but I explained it really wasn't necessary, as Sarah just wanted to give it to her. Millie insisted giving Sarah a button and Sarah was thrilled. Went back to the hotel and to sleep.
