Hayes Family at WDW: Day 5 - Magic Kingdom and MVMCP
Thursday, December 14th
We slept in and didn't worry about doing Early Entry since the crowds seemed nonexistent. I had originally planned on eating at Chef Mickey's for breakfast, but I was kind of tired of the character meals and wanted something more relaxing. We ate breakfast in the Yacht Club Galley (everything was fine) and went to the park. It was another beautiful, warm day. We wanted to do the things we did not get a chance to do on Monday except Tommorowland which we planned on doing during Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party.
We went on the Jungle Cruise (seemed hokey after doing the real Safari at Animal Kingdom), Tiki Birds (none of us liked this very much), Pirates of the Caribbean (fun for everyone), Haunted Mansion (kids just loved it so we went on again). We went to Tom Sawyer's Island and picked up sandwiches at Aunt Pollys. We were immediately surrounded by birds which creeped me and the kids out - they were very aggressive and wanted our food! We then played on the playground and explored the island. My usually brave daughter got very upset when we went in a cave (really supposed to be a mine). She was convinced there were bears in the "cave" and got really upset. I felt bad, so we exited ASAP and left the island. We went to Splash Mountain because Sarah had been saying for months that she wanted to go on. She had second thoughts when she saw the drop and said she would try it when she is 5 1/2. I waited with the kids while Pat went on - he seemed to like it. We walked over and got a perfect spot for the Magical Moments parade. This was nice, but the part where the kids joined in was a little too quick to satisfy most of the kids there. I stopped to ask where Sleeping Beauty was but they said she was not in the park. The kids really wanted to go on Goofy's Barnstormer again so we did that. It was getting really hot so they went on Donald's Boat too. They got soaked and had a lot of fun. We took the railroad to Main Street and headed back to the hotel.
We had planned on eating at the Yachtsman Steakhouse for dinner, but the kids really needed a nap before MVMCP so we skipped it. They took a nap and we got to the park for the party around 9:00. I had dressed them in really cute Disney Christmas outfits; however, it was really warm and they were very hot in these (more about this later). We went to on Buzz Lightyear (lots of fun), caught part of a show, and saw the fireworks which were great. We then had dinner at Cosmic Rays. The park was much more crowded for this than it had been all week so we did not get a chance to do much in terms of rides. We just did Dumbo and then went to get spots for the 11:15 parade. We got a great spot and really liked this parade, though Sarah was a little bummed because Sleeping Beauty did not turn to us in the parade so she only saw her back. Sam was getting really hot and removed his socks and shirt. He looked really funny and people kept commenting on it; he is a big ham so he liked the attention and was really playing it up. After the parade, we did our family picture (I somehow bribed Sam into putting his shirt on for the picture). Sam wanted to go back to Toontown. I told him it was closed, but we had to humor him and show him.
We started seeing many of the characters from the parade walking around so we got lots of pictures. We were getting ready to go when it dawned on me that the if the princesses were walking around too they would probably be near the castle. We decided to look before we left and there was Sleeping Beauty. Sarah was in heaven!! Meanwhile Sam started holding his nose, saying PU, and telling everyone that according to Peter Pan, princesses smell bad. Everyone thought this was very funny and Sam, as usual, was eating up the attention. We finally made it back to the hotel and went to sleep around 2:00 am.
