What is the Hawthorn at the Orlando Airport like? We are flying in around 9pm Friday night before our Magic cruise. The Hyatt is sold out, and I would like the most convenient place-we have four kids ages 9 & under. Thank you for any input!

Try the Fairfield Inn or Courtyard, both Marriott properties. The Fairfield was the closest and cheaper of the two. I've stayed at both and they both have a shuttle bus to them. You call when you get there, from the courtesy phone, and they pick you up. They'll also take you back to the airport if you are taking the Disney bus to Port Canaveral. We are staying the Friday before we cruise on the Magic and then having Happy Limo pick us up Saturday morning to take us to Port Canaveral.

Thanks, Fay Ray!

I checked out the Hawthorn because they had suites. One room can accomodate all six of us vs. two standard rooms. I was quoted $99 for one night (this includes breakfast the next am).

I got a great suite at Sheraton Suites MCO by using Starwood Preferred points. The hotel had a very low point value (I think it only took 3000 points) and hotel was very clean and nice.

My parents-in-law stayed at the Hawthorn the night before cruising two years ago. They were very pleased with their stay -- thought it was great!

Just to toss out another suggestion, you might want to try for two rooms via Priceline. We typically get the Marriott for $28 when we bid on a three-star property. I think you can specify two rooms when bidding so you'd be sure to be at the same place. Even with the service fee, it could end up cheaper. The Marriott has a free shuttle (although not free breakfast), and then we have Happy Limo pick us up in the morning. It's in a great spot, within walking distance of several restaurants. We have also gotten the Renaissance and the Holiday Inn Select, but the Marriott seems to be the most common at that price and star level.

Barb,

When you try for the Marriott via priceline, when do you book? Do you put in a request for the $28 -- Is that the amount you start with? I've never used Priceline, but for that price I'd be willing to give it a try. Do you remember the cost of the fee?

Thanks.

Sandra

Not Barb here, but we also just got the Marriott for $28 for Friday night before cruise. We booked a night for over 2 months in advance, but I've seen folks book a few days before, and even further out for the same price. $28 was my first bid (used MCO zone). There is all kinds of great info, bidding strategies, and hotel list (the hotels that are frequently seen under various ratings, although no guarantee what you will get) on the www.biddingfortravel.com board! Not long ago, people bidding Disney resort hotels were frequently getting Dolphin/Swan for $69 although those seemed to have dried up for the moment. (priceline fee was 5.95... but worth it!)
