Hawaiian Airlines suspends Boston to Honolulu service

That's too bad. Although I don't live in the Boston area any longer, that would have been my choice when flying to Hawaii. Get on the plane and go to sleep, wake up in Hawaii.

We've been toying with this flight since we want to either take the NCL inter island cruise and/or stay at Aulani. 11 hours AND 10 minutes has me in a tizzy, though! It is no longer on the table, so if we go, we'll have to stay a night somewhere (anywhere) on the west coast. Save us 4K+ since I wanted first...we'll use free SWA points instead!

I would still advocate for doing the whole thing in one day. 11 hours isn't much more than 8, and you can get over jet lag in Hawaii.

But if you've got SWA points, it's hard to beat that deal.

Hawaiian is refusing to honor their accommodation waiver for anyone who booked with points, they're forcing refunds on everyone.

So if you were booked under a good points redemption you're basically screwed.

Wow! We just took this flight in June. This is too bad. I wonder why they discontinued it. It seemed popular.

I think Delta still offers direct on some days.

They were just acquired by Alaska, so I’d imagine these changes are related to their new owner’s vision. You have to think another major carrier steps into this void? Delta also lost its Island transfer codeshare partner since Alaska doesn’t belong to the Skyteam. They will either find another partner or grow their Hawaii presence.

A couple quotes from the Boston.com story on this topic. Delta made the same adjustment too, and its not just Boston.

"The Boston route, offered four times weekly, is one of three “underperforming” routes being cut, according to the airline. The others are between Honolulu and Incheon, South Korea, and Fukuoka, Japan."

and

"Earlier this year, Delta Air Lines suspended its Boston to Hawaii route “to align with consumer demand,” according to AirlineGeeks.com, and the last flight will take place on Nov. 20. Delta launched the nonstop flights between Boston and Honolulu in 2024."
