We want to plan a trip to Hawaii this year and are looking for a good travel agent specializing in Hawaii. This will be a family trip, probably to Maui. Any good recommendations? Even a hotel recommendation would be appreciated.

I USED to be a travel agent that specialized in Hawaii. lol-
I'm a school bus driver now. What are you looking for in
a hotel? Condos are great in Maui - nothing like breakfast
on your lanai in your pjs! I don't suggest cooking-just a frig
to keep the champagne cold and a microwave to reheat the
doggy bag from last night's restaurant for lunch when you
are still not inclined to get dressed or at least wear more than
a bathing suit. My only other advice-get ocean front or AT LEAST
a real view from your room with a balcony. Those ocean breezes
and the sound of waves are beyond compare in Hawaii.
Lots of people take cheap trips to Hawaii. they are mostly happy
but only because they don't know what they are missing.
If this is a once in a lifetime- carpe diem.
Classic Hawaii has excellent choices in hotels. They can recommend a travel agency in your area and usually have a
list of those that really produce for them-therefore are experts.
p.s. my favorite island is Hawaii-"the big island." Maui has
the best beaches though.

We are a family of four. Our kids will be 4 and 7 when we go. We are looking for a large or condo-type room within walking distance of a beach. Before kids, we stayed at the Whaler, which we found very nice, but may be beyond our price range after paying for 4 airfares. After kids, we went to Kauai and stayed at Whaler's Cove, which was even nicer (we were supposed to stay elsewhere, but it was not as advertised and so we got into a room that just happened to be empty there for a great rate--they really took pity on us). A pool is good, but needn't be spectacular, we like to take a swim at the end of the day -- it calms down the kids. A small kitchen is good, so that we can fix a light breakfast and store picnic lunch supplies. A balcony or lanai is key, for morning coffee and afternoon drinks. We like Kaanapali.
