Haven't been there but the Wyndham Shearwater (#2638) is a very highly regarded RCI timeshare resort on Kauai where all units have an ocean view. It's along a cliff, not beachfront, and it only has a pool but the photos are gorgeous and we would spend more time sightseeing and then relaxing with the views than beach swimming. Would sure love to go there!

Oh, the condos are 2BRs, no smaller units.

Lisa, none of the Wyndham affiliated resorts on Kauai are on the DVC list currently.

Of the 4 on the list, I'd say that they are all pretty even overall and location is likely the best single factor. LBR might be the best overall but when you factor in the unit assignments to the coral building, it becomes the bottom option in my book. There are none I'd consider anywhere near close to a comparable trade but given there are only a couple of resorts in RCI and on the DVC exchange list that are, one might need to alter the standards somewhat. All 4 have 1 BR units but not all have 2 BR units. Personally I'd talk to SFX, Trading Places Int and a couple of others independent exchange companies and see what they could do.

Shearwater is nice, but as Dean said, not on our list. I have to agree with his other assessments too.

Not knowing where you live, I would suggest you try to exchange for more than 1 week also. We wont go to Hawaii for less than 2-3 weeks anymore. Last time we did a week on Kauai in an exchange and a week on Hawaii (Kona) on an exchange and spent an addition day in Honolulu at the beginning of the trip and 3 days on Waikiki at the end too. That gave us 19 days total, and we felt it was then worth the long flight and time change. We also have gotten smart enough to only fly first class to Hawaii. It's the one place we go I do NOT want to fly coach.

we will be shooting for 2 weeks in Hawaii
As I noted, RCI is lacking for HI. If I had not been and were in this situation, I'd list the Wyndham and Hilton's on Oahu, KBC on Maui and a couple of the Big Island options. I'd also contact the smaller exchange companies as some get a lot of HI inventory. Best is likely to rent your points and the use cash to get what you want. What ever you do, start NOW.
