Has anyone been there recently. I am looking for an update on what it is like. I may actually plan to go there next fall. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Rooms?Food? Atmosphere?Weather? etc?

Hawaii is a great place! WE prefer the Big Island of Hawaii, but Maui and Kauai are great too! We only spend a day or two on Oahu (read Honolulu) because once you do that...you have done it!

We did a DVC/II exchange to Kona Coast II resort in May. It was very nice and central to all the things we like to do on Hawaii. It is a very BIG island, and we like to circle it several times a trip. Being in Kona, you can spend one day going to the volcanoes, one day on the Kohala coast, one day in the Waipio Valley etc, etc. SOOO much to see and do there!

The CC choices are great but expensive. If you're looking for fall of 2003, you're a little behind in that you should be starting to look at more than 12-13 months out. Depending on where you want to go, you will have different choices. There are not many choices at the level of DVC, there I go being uppety again. I'm working from memory but the Marriott's and the Westin are about it for great choices. I'd put things like One Napili, Hanalei Bay, Club Intrawest and a few others fairly close depending on what you prefer. Persosonally, I'd look at San Francisco Exchange Company or Trading Places as alternate exchange companies or look for a direct exchange where you'll have far more good choices. There are few 2 BR units so if that's a must, you will have far less choices still. If you're interested in One Napili, I can give you the email for the manager there. He seemed willing to send out info to his owners for a direct exchange issue.

SFX gets a lot of Embassy deposits and TP has some in's with a few resorts as well. There are many choices not on the II-DVC list that could be a great fit. If you can trade less DVC points than through II, many of the choices become very workable including things like Sands of Kahana, Papakea, Makai Club, Alii Kai, and many others. Good luck.
