I want to minimize the crazy driving so wanted to book 2 nights in the Universal area.

The problem is we are a family of 5, there is the Beverly Garland but it was rather pricey 200+

Are there any other options? Hilton and Sheraton it seems we would need 2 rooms yet again, too pricey for us. I do not want to spend over 150. if possible.

We are on a budget and not caring for the options at Universal as it is, none of the hotels seem that great.

I already have decided my DL resort and pretty much my San Diego resort, but Universal has me frustrated.

What is the cost to park at Universal?

This is another thing that is ticking me off, what is up with charging for parking at all of these hotels?

I have heard about the train option, I am not totally ruling this out. Just concerned about the safety of trains and I do not know what they are like at night.

Convenience and budget are my priorities on this leg of the trip.

I will splurge a little more on my San Diego part of my trip because there are so many beautiful hotels on the beach there!

Any help or advice will be GREATLY appreciated:flower3::goodvibes

We were there last week and while we chose to stay in Hollywood we did stop at the Sheraton to grab breakfast on the way to Universal. It was very expensive! Plus, when my daughters toast come it had mold on it!?? Now, I do need to say she spilled her milk and they replaced it and when the final bill came they didn't even charge us for it or her (good) toast, but it was still expensive.
The parking for hotels in California was crazy! It might be common practise there but not yet in Saskatchewan where we are. I had did enough research before we left to expect the charges but it really added to our budget.
Where are you staying in San Diego? We stayed at the Pacific Terrace and it was a huge splurge for us (well, the whole trip ended up being a huge splurge for us! LOL) but wouldn't stay anywhere else there. The location is perfect, the service was beyond our expectations and the rooms are beautiful. Sleeping with our patio door open listening to the ocean all night was amazing!

Staying in hollywood is not a bad suggestion. The metro red line hollywood/highland stop is only one stop away from universal studios, and you would be close to the El Capitan theater as well as the Chinese theater/walk of stars if you're interested in checking that out. Unfortunately, I don't have any budget stay ideas for you, other than maybe trying priceline.
