Having to play the game with Verizon to get the better deal

I am going to get my daughter an Iphone 8 for Christmas as her line is out of contract and up for an upgrade. If I upgrade the phone it will run almost $19 a month for 24 months but if I just add a new line I can get it for $5 a month for 24 months. So I will just add a brand new line, get the better deal and then shut off the line that is out of contract. Why can't Verizon just give the $5 deal for upgrades too?

Because they want new customers. Getting a new line means not being able to move her phone number over, doesn't it?

If getting a new line means I would have to get a new phone number, no thanks. The hassle of changing my phone number is worth more than $14 per month.

We just had to do this with DD’s phone as well. We have AT&T, and they ran buy one get one free for the iPhone 11, but you had to add a line. So, DH upgraded his phone with his number, and DD had to change her number to get the free phone, and we turned off her old line/number. To us it was worth it, and she was more than happy to text her contact list with her new number in exchange for an iPhone 11.

I won't do this for myself, but I've done it 2x with ATT for my kids. They didn't care about a new number. My DD wanted a new number because people wouldn't answer her call if they didn't know her number because it ended in 00 and people thought she was a business calling.

Ya, I am not concerned with her needing a new phone number. She can deal with that. But I guess I will just play their game to get the deal.

Well I ordered the Iphone 8 for $5 a month, 24 months. I bet it will be free come Black Friday, but oh well. I also got my free subscription of Disney plus.
