Having second thoughts about the Laua

Hi! We've got laua ps for our Dec. trip, but I'm not sure if this is something I really want to do. We're traveling with 2 other families; and there are 3 children--5, 3 1/2 (mine!) and 18 mos. With the exception of the 5 yo, I don't know if the other 2 will enjoy it. I've also read varying reports on the quality of the food and entertainment. I just feel like it's a lot of money to spend on something I'm not sure of. On top of that, I'm beginning to feel like we've overplanned our nights! We'll be there 6 nights and we've got Fairy Godmother's one night for an adults night out, MVMCP one night, Chef Mickey's one night, and will have a Fantasmic Dinner Package one night. What do you think? Would we be better off waiting on the laua until the kids are older?

I would wait. Years ago they had an early Luau "Minnie's Luau". It was great for the kids and had the characters and a bit of the evening (adult portion) luau. The food is nothing to right home about -- it was the show.

Since they no longer have the Minnie Luau, I don't think I would take young children, I would wait.

You are soooo smart to ask first. I "overbooked" the evening outings the first time we went to WDW and it was something I would not advise anyone else to do. We went to the luau with small kids and they did not enjoy it. They would've rather gone swimming and just eaten in the room.
Sounds like you've got many fun activities planned--I'd hold off on the luau until another time.
A good rule of thumb is one night "on"; one night "off"--everyone enjoys it so much more.
And with Disney, a night "off" is still MAGICAL.......:earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy:

You over-booked, a common error, I would skip the luau and maybe one other reservation. The kids and some adults will not make it to all those reservations.

I just wanted to post in agreement as well. I would wait until the kids are little older.

DH and I overbooked the year we went to the luau and I was starting to fall asleep towards the end. Make not to overdo it on the luau day! :D :D

I had a feeling this was too much! I think at least our family will skip the luau. We probably won't do Fantasmic this year either. We did it last year, and ds didn't really care that much about it. That way we'll only have 3 nights of planned activities; and one of those the kids will be with a sitter. So they can at least chill out in the room with a movie or something! I really hate over planning. Our family really just likes to take things as they come (except, of course, for things that have to be planned like MVMCP or a PS at Chef Mickey's!) We're just happy at DTD watching ds play in the fountain or at Lego Land! This is our first time to go on a BIG trip with other families. It's difficult planning for this many people. Thanks for all of you input!-Dana

We go to Disney at least once a year and I still have a tendency to book too many big meals. I think your kids might be a little young to truly appreciate the Luau, but you never know.
