Is this even possible? Our kids would join us for 2 out of 4 nights but would leave Before us... do I just suck it up and pay for an entire party of 5 for 4 nights? Would I lose all of their fast passes?

I'm confused. Kids don't cost anymore per night. Or are you talking about buying tickets/dining plan? Or maybe your kids are over 18? Or maybe because you would have to book a larger room? Please explain lol

I have a 19,15 and 12. They would like to join us for the first two nights, 3 park days and then leave so dh and I can have a private getaway. Trying to figure out how best to do this. We typically buy a package and get a dining plan. But I’m willing to do a split stay/forgo the DDP for part/all of the trip if it works out financially. Just happy the kids want to go at least a small trip (they like it but not for more than a couple of nights) and dh and I love a little alone time

Yes, you would have to buy tickets and dining plan for all five days. Tickets is obviously an easier solution and there might even be a way to add them without adding 5 day tickets for them (this would be post booking and you would need to call) but I'm not sure. Dining plan Is non negotiable unfortunately. Its all or nothing, everyone or no one.
and you would need a room that could sleep five, and you would be charged extra per night for your 19 year old.
It is likely going to be less messy to book a split stay!

I’ll have to figure out the ticket thing. Not as worried about dining because dh and I can do signature dining etc to use up credits!

Is there a way to link tix to a reservation that are different lengths for different people?

It is not really about reservations linked but a matter if you are purchasing a package that includes room, tickets, and a dining plan.

The Disney rule is that everyone in the room has to have the same package features. You will need to run some numbers to see how and what best fits for your family: a package, 2 packages or maybe a room only and purchase tickets separately from Disney or UT for example.

Yes. If you purchase tickets separately, you can simply purchase the tickets each person needs and then link those tickets to the individual profiles in MDE. Purchasing tickets separately, whether you book a split stay or a 5 night stay, is probably your best option in this scenario.

You have a few options as to how to book the resort under this scenario:

1). Book and 5-night, "ticketless package" which is room plus dining and use your kids' dining credits after they leave. Just make sure when the kids leave that you stop by the front desk and see if they will remove your 19-year old's extra adult charge for the two nights he isn't there. Or just book a 5-night room only if you don't want the DDP.

2). Book a 3 night/2 night split stay with or without dining on either package. This would give you less dining credits on your second stay (if you add dining), but you might need to change rooms and/or resorts (if you'd like).
