HAVING A GRAND OLD TIME! The 2013 Grand Floridian Resort & Villas FAQ

Loved this view from my room :)

Nice pics....thanks for posting :flower3:.

The overlooking of the lobby really is so nice. It made it so relaxing to sit there and enjoy the views, and the whole sense of the resort. Our only other CL experience was at the Poly, and of course, that was awesome, too. (We did go up to see WL CL and I would like to stay there sometime, too; and I was going to try to upgrade to SL at the GF at checkin, but the resort was full that night. They told me to try the next day, but I ditched the idea since we were already doing a split stay.) I also thought the offerings were great. That guava juice was so refreshing! OTOH, we weren't particularly impressed with the Savannah view (animals weren't really around much, not sure why) and the walk to the lounge was a hike, but I'd still do it again as I liked it there a lot. I'll be curious to see how you like the CR CL. I'm sure it will be awesome, too.

That's what I loved about WL CL......sitting in the lounge was relaxing while watching the hustle and bustle in the lobby below :cloud9:. Poly CL is on our list to try as well and even with the construction going on, I am still contemplating going there in March :rolleyes1. The construction wouldn't bother me in the least bit and although the pool closure is a deal breaker for us, I REALLY want to try CL and see the new rooms in person, so I've been trying to talk myself into switching .....especially since I really don't want to wait until 2016, which is when everything is supposed to be completed.

Having a hike to the lounge is a concern of mine as well, especially accessing the lounge from the pool; but then again, that's probably no different than being at the CR and having to go back and forth to that lounge from the pool :confused3.

There are some fun and unique things around the GF, for sure! That's what I love about trying different Disney resorts - so many things that even when you study ahead of time, may still pleasantly surprise you!

I agree :thumbsup2.

It is a dilemma! A good one, but still hard to decide. I can see what you mean about CR's location - it's hard to beat the MK area, for sure. Being at AKL leaves you with far fewer dining choices. Sounds like the CR might be your best bet for this trip, AKL CL for another.:thumbsup2

Being shuttled to another resort for a swim has always sounded like a pain to me! I've never understood why anyone would want to do it if it wasn't necessary. The USO resorts not only allow pool hopping, they encourage it - and we've never done it!

Still, we are very fond of AKL CL and usually rate it as 2nd to the Grand, although now that we've tried YC's, it's a tough call.:teeth:

We do love AKL, but the MK area is our favorite and sometimes it's hard to stay somewhere else. I am thinking maybe save AKL CL for before or after our cruise in December 2014, especially since there's no idea what (if any) discounts will be offered for next year. I think I need to take advantage of the higher discount at the more expensive resort now while I can :).

The pool situation at the Poly is one of the reasons I booked the GF at the beginning. I figured if we were going to have to be shuttled there to use the pool, we might as well just stay there.

The way you feel about AKL CL is how I feel about WL CL. RPC is my favorite, but WL CL ranks a very close second for me :thumbsup2.

Most of the CL lounges are a hike from the pool - SL is unique that way.

I get what you are saying about booking the more expensive resort with the best discount, that is often how I choose which resort. On the other hand, if the seasonal rates start out higher, I usually choose the least expensive option as the rack rate is lower before the discount is added.:scratchin Good luck with your decision!

We liked WL CL, but the enclosed balconies made it less appealing for us. Not to mention, at the time we stayed there the lounge closed between service times and it always seemed to be when we were coming back or going to the parks! One of my favorite parts of GF CL is the lounge is always open.

Oh!! Good to know! We caught the WL closed a few times.. It will be nice to have access.

What time do they start putting out coffee at SL?

That is true about most clubs, with SL being the exception since it's right next to the courtyard pool :thumbsup2.

What you posted is exactly what I'm thinking about AKL. I just priced a few resorts out for December and while AKL CL is still high during that time (peak and holiday), it's still a few hundred less a night than CR CL, Poly CL, and GF RPC (it's actually about $500 cheaper/nt than RPC ). So even if I got a lower discount during that time, AKL CL would still be cheaper than the others with a higher discount. Thanks for reiterating my thoughts......I think I'm going to stick with CR CL for March as I'm not too confident that I'll be able to snag another 35% discount for it later on :goodvibes.

You are correct that the WL lounge does close (for food offerings, anyway). But one positive that we saw during our stay was we were able to ask the CL CMs for something outside of those times. The food offerings, of course, weren't available anytime of day, but pop and water were ;). And the lounge is great in that you can still go sit and relax, like in SL and RPC. That's one thing that turns me off about the Epcot resorts......the lounge actually closes (doors lock) where you can't even get into the lounge (at least that's what I've read....we've never stayed at any of them so I don't know from experience). It is nice, however, that all of the clubs have their own unique experiences :wizard:.

This is from the first page of this thread :):

All of the rooms in the Sugar Loaf building are Club Level, and access to the whole building is keyed. The SL lounge is located on the main floor, in the center of the building, and the cast member desks are located within the lounge.

After much deliberation, I'm happy to say that thanks to the awesome agency exclusive, we have booked our very first stay at the GF next August!!! DH has always wanted to stay here since our very first visit way back when and my youngest DD is very excited to celebrate her sweet 16 here next Summer..we really can't wait. We were even able to check in a few days earlier than the official start date so we'll be there for 9 glorious days! This will be our first trip in a while with no CL but I'm sure we'll survive :rotfl:...honestly, the savings was way too good to pass up :) ....I have a lot of reading to do here on this thread...

What are your dates??? We are there 8/16-8/26! :goodvibes

Joining in! As @Mommyrosa2 daughter we just booked our first ever Grand Floridian stay for August 2014! We are super excited! We were wondering if the Magical Express bus for the Grand Floridian from the airport goes to any of the other resorts, or does it just go to the GF? Thanks! :)

Add me to the August party. August 17-27 GF GV. This is the first time we haven't stayed CL or TPV in years but that rate was way too good to pass up!

Well hello!!! :wave2:

The GF shares just like other resorts. The resorts may change, but I know when I stayed at WL, ME dropped at GF, Poly, WL and CR. :goodvibes

You will love the GF :goodvibes. We've stayed GV, SL, and RPC, and although RPC is my favorite, I also loved our GV stay as the resort overall is beautiful and is a great place to stay :wizard:.

Congrats on booking the GF.....you're going to love it :). We've never used DME, but I do know the buses make more than 1 stop, with the route being dependent on other guests on at the time and where they are staying. Have a great trip :wizard:.

Too funny! We are also celebrating my oldest DD's sweet 16 with our first stay at the GF next summer. We will be there July 23-30. It will actually be her golden bday celebration as well because she will turn 16 on 7/16pixiedust:

My bday is 7/18! I had my "golden" bday quite some time ago....:bitelip:

Ugh...need advice... Arrived at noon... Late lunch at gasparillas. Hubs not feeling well after meal. Went to mk at 4 for mvmcp and hubs then taken to celebration hospital w food poisoning! Yikes! Do I say something to the GF?? What a start to vacation!

Are you wanting to tell the GF because you think it's from Gasparilla? I'm not exactly sure how you'd prove it. Where else did you eat today? Probably a few places during your travels? Food poisoning typically takes a few hours to settle in, so if he was feeling sick right after the meal, it probably wasn't that meal. But, I'm no doctor. Hope your hubby feels better soon! :goodvibes

I'm sorry your DH is sick . You could find a manager at the GF and explain what happened, although it might be tough to pin point it to Gasparillas unless you didn't eat anything else prior to that meal. But it doesn't hurt to talk to someone. Good luck and I hope your DH is feeling better soon.

I'm so sorry to hear that and can totally relate as this happened to us this past August on our arrival day but it happened to my oldest DD. We too ended up at Celebration Hospital but in her case, the doctor said she could have gotten ill anywhere...hard to tell. As Mousemommy said, it may be hard to prove where he actually got sick but you could always call to report it anyway...best of luck and I wish your DH a speedy recovery.
