After losing my mother and my father you really appreciate how special the people we love are, I believe they are still with us. May peace and love be with you at this difficult time.

Yeah, I think we will be hitting the parks pretty hard this trip since we only have 4 park days before our cruise...I felt bad paying all that money when we probably won't utilize the room as much as we normally do. :worried:

I am sure Sugarloaf will be fantastic though!!! ::yes::

I think you've made a great choice, in that case. For us, we like to do RPC when we plan to spend most of our time at the resort, and garden view or SL when we are busier with parks.:goodvibes (I think I said that already, lol)

DisneyDmbNut, isn't Richard wonderful? The weather was quite frosty last Christmas. They had a gas heater placed near the entrance, just for him while he was on duty. If anyone deserves to be warm and cozy, it's Richard.

Thanks for that, what a great image!:cutie:

Looking for some tips from all of you GF experts.......
We will be there for the first time in 2 weeks:cool1::cool1:
We have booked a garden view room.
My husband has bad back problems so we were hoping for a building that was close to the main building so we requested Big Pine Key.
Would others say that would be the closest and best? And what floor ?
Looking for any and all advice

Only 2 more weeks, woohoo!! Big Pine Key is probably the closest non-CL building to the back door of the Main Bldg. Keep in mind, the resort is pretty small so any of the buildings are not a far walk - I have a bum knee and bad ankle, and do not have any trouble walking within the resort, even after a long day in the parks.

If you do want Big Pine Key, there are a few rooms in that building to try and avoid. The lower floors down near Boca Chica will look into the back of the pool building, so requesting an upper floor close to the Main Building end will likely give you the view you want.:thumbsup2

My DD is excited to be there in February.. She is hoping richard is out roasting chestnuts! Lol

:teeth: Do they still have chestnuts out in February?! It is one of the months we have not been, and only in the first week of January, so I was unaware. We don't care for them, but the greeters are always so enthusiastic, we take them to be polite.:rotfl:

I'm starting to think that way about going in March/peak season. The more I think about end of May/June (or possibly end of April), the more appealing it's becoming with the lower rates as I can get the same vacation for less money just by pushing it back 2 months. Crowds don't bother us as we usually go to a park for 2-3 hours in the morning then back to the resort for swimming/relaxing then back to a park after dinner for a maybe an hour or two....
....
Thanks.....I'm really starting to like the idea of May/June. I was just starting to rethink March and then it really kicked in when I rechecked airfare......I've never paid anywhere close to $300/pp for roundtrip, so I'm definitely not even entertaining the idea of paying that for one way :sad2:. I am also considering the end of April (after Easter) when rates go down, so I'm tossing around a few ideas.

LOL on your budget inches up and up as time goes on. I do the same thing, especially with discounts. After awhile my Disney brain starts thinking "with this discount I can do this resort", which turns into "well now I can do this resort and this room type".....it never ends :rotfl2:.

I was considering April before I started looking at May/June. My oldest DS asked if we could go after basketball season ends but before playoffs start :faint:. It sure was easier to plan and take trips when they were younger :rotfl:.

Kudos to you for not paying $300+ for r/t, even; we used to pay under $200/person r/t, but in the last couple years it has soared in KC. Yikes. I at first refused to pay that outrageous amount, but gave in lately as it seems the price these days.:faint: Good luck with your planning!

LOL about your son and the basketball season. It is, indeed, easier when they are little, although we used to have to work around the school, swim lesson and baseball schedules.:teeth:

.... I can't wait to meet Richard. I have read all about him and he looks like a sweetheart!

....
All the talk about budget was making me cringe about what it costs when we are going . . . LOL We are going in the peak of the peak seasons . . . The good thing about our trip this year is that my inlaws are taking us as a gift. My MIL has always wanted to take all the grandkids to Disney and so I get a free trip this year! pixiedust:

Woohoo, free trip!:cheer2::rotfl:

Isn't Richard a doll?! I have to give a shout out to his partner in greeting - think his name is Oliverio - as he doesn't get as much love.;) Richard is the rock star, lol.

I know what you mean regarding the peak season, yikes! The amount you start with before the discount sounds like a joke, right?!:crazy2:

Got the GF for the Dopey weekend. It's going to be great to be back. Got o see all of the improvements.

:cool1::cool1:

I almost fell over when I saw those fares......it went from $166 to $303 without gradually going up :sad2:. I agree that airfare is on the rise and the $49-$79 fares are long gone, but over $300 one way is CRAZY!!! :scared1:

Ya my DS loves his NBA games and as I want everyone to be happy on vacation, I always find myself juggling dates to choose just the right time to go :rotfl::rotfl:.

In that case, I won't tell you the fares from Australia. You would faint.

trishadono I am very sorry for the loss of your FIL. :grouphug: I hope that you continue to have fond memories of your family being at the GF together. My children remember all the fun times we spent with my mother there before her passing. I think that is one of the reasons why we still go back to the GF, so that they can feel her there with us.

Hi Blue :wave2: I've been busy with kids. Went on our last college tour yesterday! Now it's a waiting game, much like the countdown before our Disney vacation.

We are booked for July, but no discounts yet. Anyone heard or seen any? I guess I should start planning where we are going to eat. Oh yes, the all important food options with two teenagers!

Have a Grand Day my friends!!!

Only 2 days!!!! :cool1:

Mommygina : have fun college "shopping". That time together is very special.

Any last minute requests? Someone wanted to know what dvc merchandise was available so I will check that. I am staying in RPC so any food drink questions let me know.

Just the thought of those airfares is scary!:scared:

We are lucky enough that it isn't too bad of a drive :drive: which I prefer to do anyways. Flying makes me nervous and I only do it if I have too!

Thanks for the info.:goodvibes Only 2 more days, very exciting!!

I would love to hear about the merchandise selection at M. Mouse - BlueSkies was supposed to check that out, but she may have forgotten.;)

Oh, man, do I know it. Our big jump happened a little more gradually, but it started about 3 years ago. I would see great fares from the East coast for $69/$79 each way, and ours had gone up to over $100 - then $150!:headache: I have even had to pay $200 one way a time or two, I won't do that again, I'll just drive.

Yes, $300 one way is over the top for a flight within the US.:faint:

In that case, I won't tell you the fares from Australia. You would faint.

Yes, I can imagine!:scared1: Our r/t fares to London-Paris were high, and Australia is about as far as you can get. My son went to China with his college group and ended up staying for a couple months, and I think I had to pay $1300 to get him home.:faint: (that was one way, if anyone missed it!:scared:) I had paid the same price for a r/t ticket as the rest of the students, but did not get any of that money back to help offset the ticket home. Gaah.

 I'm glad you are able to enjoy the Grand while feeling close to your mother.

Good luck with your college hunt.:thumbsup2 Exciting time!

And good luck with your dining plans. So tough to come up with where you want to eat 6 mos. in advance! I hope you are able to find a good discount, they will probably come out after the first of the year, right? (I'll be looking, too.:teeth: )

We were posting at the same time, I almost missed this.:)

Good for you, I envy anyone close enough to drive.:car: We have done it many times (DH and oldest DS hate to fly), but it means at least 4 extra days for us (2 there, 2 back) and a couple extra nights of motel costs. Not always feasible with school/work schedule.

Now that my DD lives near DC, I may start flying or driving out there, spending a few days with her and the two of us driving down.:teeth: (I'm retired, so I have a lot more time than she does)

Princessmocha, Dani and Disneynut and anyone I missed. Thanks for the good wishes:)

Grammaminnie should be there now. Hopefully we get some word from her soon.:duck:

It's decided; we're going to try to do 2 studios at BLT for our kids and get a one bedroom at GFV's for US!! It's been a dream to stay at the GF and now with the villas, we can!!! Less than a year :cloud9:

:goodvibes Good afternoon fellow GF fans!

DisneyDmbNut Your DD is adorable :cutie:..and what a nice pic of her and Richard..We like to take a pic with him at each visit also..

MickeyNut If you can change your dates to a non peak time that would be great!:thumbsup2 I knew something would change..LOL...;)

MouseMommy speaking of changes...:confused3 Changing room categories yet again....I think that you made a great change...We always stay SL if we go in the summer...You just cant beat the location for a pool day...returning to the lounge for a quick snack or beverage...And when our family was younger we always preferred SL...just my two cents! :goodvibes

Trisha & BamaBelle My condolences on your losses... :grouphug:

MrsJHenry Two weeks!! :dance3: BPK sounds like the perfect choice for your families needs..since you asked..my advice would be to take some time to enjoy all the the GF has to offer..the ambience in a lobby..the lovely grounds...Hope you have a grand vacation!

PrincesssMocha What nice inlaws you have!!! :thumbsup2

Dragonfly This might be a silly question..but I don't know what Dopey weekend is?? No matter..have a great trip!

JoJoMickey

MommyGina Hey there!! :goodvibes Nothing like Disney family memories...As for the summer discounts..haven't heard a thing yet...:confused3 Get that dining done girl..IMO..its always about the food!! Especially with teenagers in tow! ;)

FollowthatMouse I cant even imagine that airfare! :crazy2:

k&a&c'smom :moped: That is quite a road trip.. the trip from DC will definitely seem like a hop skip and jump! Well..are we back in sync..are you posting about now??? ;)

Trisha's post about DVC merchandise reminded me..that I did look around a fe weeks ago to see if ther was anything that was GF DVC specific in the shops..at that time there was not...But Sandy cove is now carrying DVC merchandise..another pic I will have to send to Maxie to post for me...there were mens button down shirts that said DVC...and womens (pink, blue and turquoise) and mens (navy blue) tees..assorted hot cups..water bottles..and hats..they simply say Disney Vacation Club..with a Mickey on them...

As for the CL offerings..Trish your post made me think of this too.. all morning..and afternoon were the same as usual....besides the new coffee..bye bye Nescafe...there are some newer evening appetizers.. had the opportunity to talk with a very nice chef while he was checking on the food..and he asked what I thought... :listen: I actually made a list..LOL..casue I know that I wouldn't remember..I'll need to get out my "packet" from this last trip ..I know that others of you have admitted to having these too! LOL..:upsidedow and post it later...

Hope that everyone is having a wonderful Wednesday! :earsgirl:

We can do it in 14 hours if we want to push ourselves to do it in a day. (I have a little bit of a lead foot). :car: I always seem to get sick every time we fly. It doesn't matter what I take beforehand to stop it either. lol And we like to torture the kids with historical things along the way as well! :rotfl2:
