Blueskies Thank you so much for the description! I can picture it quite well given the sleuthing photos already posted by Circusgirl. I guess we know now that we may be right about that wall being too cramped to hold all the new furniture since the desk is on the opposite side now. I will be SO BUMMED if the new design does not have an armchair. That is one of the room details I really prefer. I do not like to sit on the bed all the time and the daybed is on the same wall as the TV. It is so nice to have an armchair to curl up and read, watch TV, etc. while enjoying downtime. It just isn't the same in a desk chair

Do you remember if they still have a padded bench at the foot of the bed?

k&a&c'smom....Hi!! I am a wall paper fan too..but the tan color does blend nicely. .really...

Upon rechecking my pics.. I realized that the GF logo on that pillow is gold..and I forgot to mention the tufted headboards..look like a light tan..almost cream...and wood framed... can't really make out the pattern on the drapes...only a bit of it was showing. ..again overall reds..with golds and cream colors...I bet there is blue mixed in there too...but as I said..only could see a bit of the pattern...and there were lace panels hanging beneath the drapes too....

Didnt see any reading chair....not sure where it would go...and there might be paper on the walls...but looked like a tan paint to me???....hope someone will be checking into one of those rooms soon and be able to give better details...

Gold, cream and blue is the color scheme I expected, and if the red is only an accent, I won't be too disappointed. But I know the red splashes in the YC rooms is a bit too much for me - this sounds like even more than that. Maybe the red is less "red" and more "burgundy"? (see how I'm trying to find some wiggle room?! hahaha)

I, too, am hoping for photos - soon!! Have a great time!

Yeah, I'll be perturbed about the chair if it's gone...as if that matters! I thought I read someone's post that mentioned a bench, but I just scrolled through and can't find it now. I sure hope it is still there, too, as we use it a LOT!

Just arrived at the Grand Floridian for our first stay and we received some major pixie dust!!! We are the first guests in a newly remodeled room in Conch Key!!! I can't believe it - even my hubby is impressed!!! The room is absolutely beautiful!!! They just opened the building to guests last night!

I just took a lot of pics (before the boys got into everything)! So excited to share! We're off to get lunch and then to Magic Kingdom.

Yes, I'm with you - why didn't we manage to sneak into BlueSkies' luggage?! Guess that's why she left without telling us.

Thanks about DS. We'll be glad to get through the next phase. I should say - he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer a couple months ago, and had surgery mid-December. I haven't wanted to talk about it until we were further down the road, but things look real good. It's one of the cancers with a nearly 100% cure rate for his age/type, thank goodness. We feel incredibly fortunate in that sense.

Is updating occurring in any other buildings?
If yes- is it noisy?
We will be at GF in April and my toddler naps - so I want to stay out of buildings with renovating noise!

Yes, there is a renovation of all rooms currently underway, one building at a time. There is a refurb schedule posted at the top of the first page. Conch Key is the first building to be completed, they are now working on Boca Chica.

Circusgirl was just there in Boca during the refurb of Conch and said she did not hear anything. The construction is inside the building and each building is being closed to guests while under renovations, so they will not place you in a building with construction.

Here is what is posted on page 1 (quoted from easyWDW):

"Speaking of the Grand Floridian, its rooms will be seeing a minor refurbishment from early 2014 through the end of July. Disruption should be minimal to nonexistent for most guests. All rooms will receive all-new carpet and wallpaper. The Conch Key building began January 5th. Boca Chica begins February 4th; Big Pine Key begins March 9th; Sago Key begins April 27; Sugar Loaf begins June 1; and the main building begins June 29."

I was there from the 20th to the 28th of January. During the monorail closure, they added two large boats to the water transportation, and continued to run the two smaller motor launches. The boats came in alternation, small then big then small etc. I did not experience the bus transportation. There were some moderately crowded days as well as some low crowds days while I was there. I didn't have to wait any longer than usual for water transportation, although in a high crowd time I could imagine a wait of one boat.

Things are good, the kids are doing well so that makes everything good. My DS1 has more medical stuff next month, but shouldn't be too bad.

k&a&c'smom has posted a renovation schedule on the first page of this thread. Conch Key was the first building to be done. I was in the building next door to Conch Key during the last stages of the refurb, and there wasn't significant noise from the building. There was lots of activity on the paths around Conch Key with workers going back and forth pushing large boxes of stuff, but nothing that would have been a problem for napping. I don't know if there is more noise early in the process when they are doing the tear apart phase.
