Have you used an aircard at the Fort?

We've never had good luck with the internet at the Fort Wilderness sites. One time they were out of modems. One time ours didn't work. One time we had a defective cord. In short, it's been unreliable. DH always has to do some work while we're there, and while he's gone up to the Outpost and used a dialup hookup there, and he's used the wifi, it's just not convenient. So we're thinking of getting an aircard for him to use. I'm sure some of you use an aircard for internet. How's the reception at Disney? I would think it's pretty good, and you can pick up the high speed broadband network, but I want to make sure. Also, which company do you use (we have AT&T). Is one better than another for reception there? Any advice would be appreciated.

My experience may not help you much since we use Verizon. But,,,, We always have had great reception. I always have the broadband level of service anywhere in Disney I have used it.

I have a Verizon air card and it's worked great at the Fort (not to mention in the car most of the way along 95 from NH)

Our Verizon aircard also worked great at the Fort. Sorry I can't help with AT&T.

I have used Verizon & Sprint on my personal laptops and they worked great. I have also used AT&T for a work laptop and it worked well also.

I used to have an AT&T card. I found it to be very slow and I had alot of difficulty getting service during our travels. I now have a Verizon card (after asking many campers in campgrounds what they were using) and it works great at the Fort.

My Sprint card works great at the Fort, and every where from there to Raleigh.

Another Verizon person here. Works great at the Fort!!

We ditched our AT&T aircard in the 30 day trial period cause it stunk, Verizon works great, kept in touch on our Sept 2008 trip.

Same here in both the 1600 and 1800 loops with my Verizon Aircard which is all I use both on the road and at home for internet.

We have tried everything from cell phones tethered, to aircards, to hughesnet. Best aircard we have ever used is VERIZON we have used one since 2005 and love the freedom it gives you we now have the usb one but our old one still worked up until DW got us the new usb one. CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW? I would go with verizon get it just before you leave on your trip and if you dont like it call them within the first 15 days and cut it off....

We've never had an issue with our wireless internet on our laptops. We've used then for the last two years. My Smart phone, too, has never had a problem getting on the internet. We have At&T and Sprint.

May be a dumb question but if you have an aircard do you still have to pay internet fees to the fort????????

Nope! You get online completely independently of WDW (like you would anywhere with an aircard - as long as you get a signal).

Of course you do pay a decent monthly fee to your service provider (generally comparable to having another basic cell plan), so unless you're going to use it fairly regularly, it may not be worth it. Mine through Verizon is about $60/mo.

My Alltell card worked great at the Fort and all along the trip from East texas. Its the only connection i use.

We got rid of our DSL line the same time we disconnected our landline phone. We have a little router by CradlePoint that the USB Aircard plugs into and makes a WiFi zone. This way, multiple computers (and other devices, like the satellite receiver and PPC) can use the one aircard. They even sell a battery pack for the router so you can take your WIFI zone with you! It is a pretty nice solution. The only thing the aircard is a bit too slow for is streaming Netflix movies, which would be nice while camping, but you'll get hiccups every few minutes where the throughput just can't quite keep up. The next generation, WiMax, is coming though... and it will have no such problems!

Well you answered my question on how much it costs. We have wireless internet at home so I don't think it would be worth it for us
