They don't expire do they? I was thinking about getting a $25 for each of my kids for our trip NEXT november (2010) and putting them in their stockings.???
I had heard a rumor that the Disney Store (at least our local one) wasn't carrying Disney Dollars anymore? Can anyone confirm this?
I went in Sept and bought some just fine. At the time they were no longer stocking Park Hopper Tickets to DL (they had a few left random ones left). They were probably waiting for news ones to come out in Jan with new price points or expiration dates.
I wonder if the person that said they didn't carry Disney dollars was confused and meant that they weren't currently carrying the hopper tickets?
I went in a couple of weeks ago to the Disneystore to get Disney Dollars and they told me they don't have them anymore, they will only be available in the parks, and then they offered me a gift card instead.

I guess we will have to plan on the added expense of buying them for the following trips each time we are there...
Don't get me wrong I think the gift cards are great!
However, we used Disney Dollars as incentives for our boys before our trip last month for doing their chores, going to bed ontime, etc... (basically they earned one dollar each weekday, if they got all 5 then they got a 5 dollar bill on Saturdays. They would put them into zip lock freezer bags that we had drawn a countdown calendar on with a sharpie. So each day we would draw a mickey head in the box for that day and give them their Disney Dollar to put inside the bag.
It was a lot of fun, a giftcard (while easier to manage), just isn't the same kind of incentive for a 5yo and 2yo.
Maybe we should make the switch to a giftcard and then will just make our our dollars and print them on the computer and then add whatever the balance they earn to a gift card the day before we leave...
Just an FYI, the Disneystores now carry a variety of giftcards.
They have Mickey, Toy Story, Princess, Winter Fab 5, Holiday (I think) and Princess and the Frog. Some are the same as the ones sold on DL.com and WDW.com, some are different.
I just ordered a few for our next trip. I like to give one to the older teens for when they go off on their own......
For those used to giving D$s for allowance/gifts/etc, I would just make something up on my own, and put the cash aside. They are still sold at the parks (and someone said they are at WDW's World of Disney, so I would imagine the WOD at Disneyland is the same), so as long as you've held on to the money, you can swap 'em out with the kids once you get there.
I loved the variety of the gift cards, but I have to say that I was actually overwhelmed! How do I choose just one for each kid? I lost count of how many had Cinderella on them.
I asked both my kids what their favorite Disney/Disney Channel characters are and got them gift cards for our upcoming trip to Disneyland. So, I ended up with one Stitch and one Phineas & Ferb card. There was no shipping cost for ordering and they came with nice cards with my message inside. I'm going to give the kids the cards the day before we leave.
