Have you seen Prince of Persia?

I feel like I am going to get flamed for asking this, but here goes:

I was in Target and saw Prince of Persia on sale and thought I'd grab it for a family friend's Christmas present. I was in a hurry and didn't think to look at the rating but when I got home noticed it was PG-13 (for violence and action). The family friend is 7 years old, so I was wondering if you think this movie is appropriate?

I'm asking because my parents were VERY strict with movie ratings when I was growing up and did not want me to watch anything PG-13 until I was 13. However, I know the boys parents aren't as strict and he loves movies like Star Wars, etc. with a lot of action.

Please let me know if you think this would be appropriate for a 7 year old since I have not seen the movie myself.

Thank you!

Just call mom and ask her what she thinks. You have plenty of time to return it if she doesn't think its appropriate for him.

My ds is waiting to see this, we'll probably get it this weekend. He has all the Star Wars movies, all 3 POTC, Transformers, several Indiana Jones, Avatar, Iron Man, etc...but I"m pretty laid back on this stuff. As long as its not rated R, I'm okay with him watching (within reason).

But really, just call his mom, only she can decide if its okay! :thumbsup2

My kids can watch it, but I also don't have an issue with them watching R-rated films either. I'm lax on rating systems.

The violence is very mild/comicbook style - no worse than Pirates of the Caribbean or Spiderman.

We saw it. There was a lot of violence, IMHO. A lot of killing with bow and arrows, swords, poison and knives. I don't remember it being bloody though, just a lot of people dying!

Here http://www.kids-in-mind.com/p/princeofpersiathesandsoftime.htm is the breakdown of exactly what might be objectionable.

fwiw, I let my DD12 see it, and I'm normally super strict. The violence is video-game violence and the movie is kind of campy, so I wasn't too worried about it. If the boy has seen the recent Harry Potter movies, or the Pirates of the C. movies, he should be ok.

I thought it was pretty violent for a Disney film, but if he's seen PoC, Transformers etc...he should be fine. Whether I think Transformers is appropriate for a 7 yr old is another story ;)

I loved Prince of Persia though, not that you asked! Thought it was great!!!:thumbsup2

We just watched it Saturday night. We thought it was very good, and while I don't have a 7 year old anymore I certainly don't think it's any worse then Harry Potter or Star Wars type movies. But I would call the Mom and see what she says about it. :)

The only one that would be able to answer the question is the mother herself. What one person may think is ok for their 7 year old, another might not.

A little late to the topic, but FWIW, while DS (6) has been kept from the Indiana Jones movies (trying to keep him from picking up certain words and phrases for a little while longer, at least), I would let him watch Prince of Persia.
