Have you seen or heard of this illness at the resorts?

I just read a huge post on some virus going around the parks and resorts and wondered if any CDNs noticed a "higher than average" amount of sick people. They even relate to the Norwalk Virus......suggesting it could be some sort of outbreak (keeping in mind these are all Disney guest perspectives).

Seems it hit hard in December. I haven't seen anything in York Region - I haven't even heard of anyone (family or friends) having a gastro/flu bug this season (touch wood). I just hope if we get it - we get it before we go!

I think there could be something going around Disney, or perhaps is just people bringing germs from back home and then spreading it around. I was at WDW in mid-November and got a stomach bug towards the end of my trip. I came down with it on the Thursday night, ventured out to AK on the Friday on all kinds of medicine to make my symptoms stop, and then spent the majority of the Saturday in bed at my resort. Being sick at Disney was NOT fun at all! I was really careful too... lots of hand washing and hand sanitizer.

The Norwalk virus hit Calgary late November. When were in WDW in late December we noticed a LOT of kids with running noses and coughs. I knew nothing about the virus going around down there until we returned home:confused3

We're heading down in February so I hope it's not too bad. We got the same virus up here in the Panhandle of Florida over Christmas. I think it's just making it's rounds, and with the mass amount of people who travel, it will make it's way around. I don't think Disney has a hold on this one, but just because of the numbers of people there, your odds are better to catch stuff. I came home from Orlando a couple years ago with the worse Flu I've ever had. I'm planning on washing hands, and taking sanitizers and just do the best we can to avoid getting sick.

I noticed the same thing here in Winnipeg around mid-December. At my daughter's 5th bday, one kid complained her stomach hurt. My daughter was throwing up at 2am the next day. My 2 year old was sick 48 hours later. I was next. Lots of my co-workers seemed to have the same thing.

Nothing around us that I have heard of, but while in WDW, yep.
We were in WDW Dec 11-18 (WOOHOO!! MouseFest, DATW, TSMM, and the podcast crew!!!) and about the 14th noticed both rooms beside us, and others when walking around, had complete changes and rug cleanings.
It was definately "noticeable" that this was not a regular room change.
We managed to get away unscathed by the stomach virus, but I came back with a cold, and an ear infection for the flight home, and pnuemonia 2 days later.
We also did the whole hand sanitizer/wash when possible/dont touch that!/get that away from your mouth.....you get the idea.
Pretty hard to keep away from EVERYTHING!
Funny thing is, the kids and DW were fine.
I always think of those people I see with the medical/dust masks on.....
Allergies?...just keeping out the dust?...
Are they trying to be cautious and not get sick....

OR

Are they trying to be cautious and not get anyone else sick....

Food for thought...

Oh wait.....stay away from the food......that could get you sick.

:rotfl: Well the beginning of December I became very ill with the stomach flu, throwing up amonst other things. Then my son became ill and was constantly throwing up. We both had it for about 10 days before we were really feeling better. Could not eat for 5 or 6 days, not even soup or crackers, just water and gatorade. We have not been ill like that for awhile.

I was thankful that we had it before we left for disney. We left Dec 23rd, and while we were there on the 18th we stuck around the resort cause DS wasn't feeling great. That night about 3 am I woke up VERY ILL and could not leave the hotel room for the next 24 hours. Needed to stay very close to the bathroom. :scared:

The next day I was better but cautious. :rotfl:

We were there from Nov 30 - Dec 12. While there my husband and son develped a fever. DS's fever started Thursday night and we flew home the next day. Once back home, my husband was diagnosed with a chest infection and possibly asthma. My son was diagnosed with a raging ear infection.

Two rounds of anti-biotics later, my husband thinks he had more than a chest infection but was never tested for anything else. Last night DS became extremely ill and after a terrorizing night at the hospital (blood, nasal & throat swap), it is figured he has pneumonia. He is currently having chest x-rays now to confirm. So, we wonder what would happen if my husband was more closely examined and if the two are related. Fortunately this all happened at the end of our trip so it didn't interfere, but things have not been too fun around here since arriving home!

Seems the pixie dust might have a little more in it than we bargained for........

Just to update, my son's chest x-ray results came back and his chest is clear. He did however, test positive for strep! Apparently I was reading too much into it, but the doctor did say he was sure it was pneumonia! Seems dh's illness and ds's illness are unrelated!

we're at wdw now - jan.4-16th - i think we've picked up an intestinal bug of some kind - first my mom, then dh, me and now our toddler - symptoms are dizzyness, nausea/vomitting, diarhea, etc. low grade fevers - first 24 hours seems worst then just lethargy and loss of appetite..started day 8/9 of our trip so at least we were able to enjoy most of it - just hanging out at our resort now and taking it easy before we drive home friday....hoping to get some energy to at least go lay around the pool now that the bad symptoms are over...we washed hands, had flu shots etc. but we did spend time offsite shopping a bit too so who knows?!?!? bring gravol, immodium, pepto bismol whatever you like to alleviate the symptoms but it will just need to run it's course...

I had read the same thing on the boards prior to my family's trip to WDW from Dec. 28 to Jan. 3.
We stayed at Wilderness Lodge, and the rest of my family were at All-Star Sports, and we didn't see anything, or suffer any sickness.

Just returned today from a week in the World.

We were all healthy, and saw no sickness at all while we were there. We stayed at POR.

We stayed at BCV in November, I got it. We were definitely not alone. My family didn't get sick, just me. Thank heavens for small miracles.

I just returned and was at All Star Movies from Jan 9 to 16th. I got very sick on my 4th day (vomiting & diarrhea) and spent most of the last 3 days in my room. Now my sister who travelled with me is sick. So far my 2 daughters are not sick. There is still something there and I can tell you it is not pleasant. I still have very little appetite and energy.

This is exactly why I prefer to avoid travelling to WDW during the fall/winter as this is when gastrointestinal illnesses tend to be more prevalent. That being said, we were there this past August and one of my daughters managed to come down with something (figures)!! We've had to see a doctor a time or two while on vacation and they have indicated that because of the sheer number of people vacationing at WDW, your odds of catching something is much greater. I think that another reason for this is that people will venture back to the parks even though they're not fully recovered (i.e. they may have stopped vomiting but they're still contagious) because they don't want to "waste" any of their vacation time. If they were at home, they'd probably take it easy for a day or two before exposing everyone else to their germs!!! There's nothing worse than being sick while on vacation!
