Have you Purchased An Upgrade After Boarding?

Just found this forum so I'm new....going on 2nd cruise, leaving Dec 30 on the Magic....kids don't know yet, surprising them Christmas day....

Hopefully a quick question:
Last time we upgraded at the check-in...it was a great deal, this was in August of 2010.

Things have changed about check-in and we seem to have missed getting in on the first check-in at 11 am and don't check in to 12:30 pm. So not sure how many people will have checked in before me.

I just got off the phone with Disney and the lady said to still arrive early and we can ask for an upgrade then...if its available and the earlier we get there the better.

Can anyone confirm this or let me know what time I should get there....we're leaving from Canaveral on the 30th of December.

THX

DH and I are on the same sailing! Head over to our cruise meets thread if you haven't already!!! We have a couple meets set up on board already and it'll be a great group!

So far, for this particular sailing, I've been checking to see what's still available on the website and there seem to be a lot of categories still open. So I'm hopeful for an upgrade at the port!

On a 3 night Dream cruise, It was giving me the option to upgrade to Navigator Veranda for aout $250 from about a month - 3 days prior to the cruise (we booked a deluxe inside about 1.5 years in advance). When I asked at the supervisors desk during check-in at port, I was qouted the same price. It was a great deal (would have paid $1400 for the three of us for the veranda - My friend tried to book about 1 month before we left and the lowest price she could get was $4000 for an oceanview room, she did not come :rotfl:) but we decided to pass, I am probably the only person on here who really don't care what room I am in (I have been in multiple levels on various ships).

I usually ask every time, but have always decline b/c I just think of all the other stuff that money could go towards on the boat (excursions, souvineers, photos, alcohol, lol).

Wow, great deal, Homemom!

This is a really interesting thread. I've done six cruises and I only had a vague notion about upgrading at port. I will definitely check into doing that on our next cruise.

Just a warning. Always book the cabin you will be happy with. I am going on my 9th Disney cruise in January. We usually sail caribbean in Jan/Feb and we have never seen an upgrade available at the port. The mexican riviera has been an unpopular itinerary, so there may be some upgrades available. I was told by a DCL rep that the MR would not be offered again.

Do you pay by pp or just a flat price DCL gives you?.....Seems like an excellent deal you got.

It is a flat rate based on the difference between what you paid and the chart rate for the stateroom not pp. Upgrades are definitely driven by how many vacant staterooms there are. The MR cruise had 8 empty 1 bedroom suites when we did our upgrade. Many of the people in suites on the cruise upgraded at the port. You can look at the DCL web site a day or two before you sail and check how many staterooms are still available in the category you want to see what your chances might be.

I am leaving on a MR cruise out of LA. Who do I talk to about these upgrades?

thank you!
