Have you or anyone you know been picked for jury duty?

Both my husband and I were picked for separate trials--his was 1 month long-home every night except the last one when they were sequestered. The court clerk called me to say he wouldn't be home that night and did I need to get any messages to him --I simply asked if they could keep him a little longer-lol. It was actually a horrible case and the guy was found guilty and later charged(while in jail) and found guilty of an even more horrible crime. My case was a civil case(only 6 jurors and we all got along and liked each other) and lasted 2 weeks. (minus 1 day) Many people got out of serving on my jury--one because he was hosting a golf tournament????:confused3 I had asked originally to be excused as I had to go in for a biopsy but the judge said he'd work around my sick day--hence we were 1 day short of 2 weeks. It turned out to be a great experience--guilt had been established and admitted so we were simply agreeing to a settlement. We had to sit through a lot of medical stuff but in the end, we got to make someones altered life a lot more comfortable. I'd gladly do it again.

I was summoned as a potential juror about 5 years ago. The date was during my honeymoon so I called the number on the summons and they said they would postpone my summons. I thought I was off scot-free until I received another summons 4 months later. They needed jurors for 2 cases - a child abuse case and a domestic violence case. I was able to be excused from the child abuse case as one of my best friend's mother was a witness for the prosecution. The other case, I wasn't selected and sat for 3 hours in the selection room reading a book. Luckily, I have never been summoned back. However, I am the only person that I know to have been summoned at all, let alone served on a jury.

Funny you ask because I received a letter in the mail just yesterday for the first time. Does anyone know what happens if you get chosen and you have a vacation booked?

I received a letter to go for Jury selection and I had to be there for October 13, we leave for Disney in November. I wrote a letter to the Judge last Tuesday explaining about my trip I included my airline confirmation and Disney receipt. I dropped it off around Noon then around 5 the Sheriffs office called and they said I was excused and didn't have to attend on the the 13. :cool1:, She joked and said that if I still wanted to go and had to be on a jury she would take my tickets for me

So I'm off the hook. Good luck to you I'm sure you will get out of it as well if you have proof of travel.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but there is a chance you will get called again. I got out of it twice - once because I was on vacation and the other because of work. But they called me again a few months later. Of course, you never know.

My dad got a letter once. The funny thing was that he had been dead for about two years. My sister phoned to tell them that he wouldn't be showing up. Gotta love the government.....
