Have you gotten the AP rate at the Grand Californian or other DLR hotels?

I was just wondering if people could share recent AP rates they have gotten at the DLR hotels (Grand Californian, Paradise Pier and DL Hotel). I keep hearing about people getting the $149 AP rate at the GC, but when I called for rates for the weekend of August 3-4, I was quoted $309 AND TOLD THAT WAS THE AP RATE. (?!?) I was quoted $209 for Paradise Pier AP rate. I think this is outrageous considering that you can log on to Expedia.com right now and get PP for $189. Anyway, just wanted to find out what rates people have gotten. If you have gotten the AP rate at any of these hotels, what was your rate and was it weekend, etc?? Inquiring minds want to know.....

I had the $149 rate for my recent stay (June 24 - 27). I think they called it the Super Sunday Annual Passholder rate (or something like that). Check mousesavers.com for the correct terminology.

Thanks. I have heard of the Sunday thing - I guess what I was wondering was do you have to stay over a Sunday to get that rate (and it sounds like you got that rate for multiple days).... lucky you! I love the GC but have never gotten less than $275 there (on weekends). FYI to all, I found Paradise Pier today on Expedia (for next weekend) for $149, after Disney quoted me $209 yesterday as an AP rate to stay there!!

We were there on Mon. - Thurs. nights, so no you don't have to be there on a Sunday to qualify for the Super Sunday rate. I know that if your stay includes a weekend night (Fri. or Sat.) the rate will be higher for your entire stay (I first inquired about staying on Mon. - Fri. nights and was told the rate would be $169). When I later tried to add Friday night as a separate reservation, they no longer had any rooms available so we ended up staying at the Homewood Suites for $99 on Fri. night. Hope this helps! :)

We just returned last night from our Cal vacation. We spent 4 days and 3 mights at the GC to do Disneyland. We used an AP rate and got the Sunday deal. WE paid 239 for the GC concierge on a Monday, Tues and Wed nights.

We had a great time and would be happy to answer any questions.

I had PP for Sat-Tues nights at the end of June with an AP rate of $129 for upper level, theme park view. I had a reservation somewhere else at first because I was originally quoted much higher, but I just kept calling back.
Back in April I had the same view for $99 with an AP and I've been quoted $99 for late September, standard view.

I got an AP rate of $99 for Disneyland Hotel, theme park view, for a Sunday night in mid-August 2002.

How did you like the GC Concierge?

We'll be there in August, and are wondering how we'll like it. Of course we've never done DCA either- but that's another story.

Any information you can post about Concierge would be greatly appreciated!!

TIA-

Concierge was fine. Not sure what your experience is with concierge services elsewhere - our was not extensive. Only thing we could compare was concierge services at the Poly at WDW (whic would rank a bit higher than this).

We ate breakfast there eery morning. They had bagels, cream cheese, croissants, chocolate croissants, several types of cereal, fruit such as watermelon, canteloupe, pineapple and mango, orang juice, milk, sodas, and muffins.

After breakfast, they seemed to have cookies and soda until about 5 when they chnged to a wine/cheese time. We are not drinkers, so know nothing about the wine. They had a canape - one type each night - like melba toast with crab mousse or cream cheese and cucumber. They also had grapes - maybe some other fruit and peanu butter and jellysandwiches and chips (I think they were available during the day also - Sun Chips, Lays, BBQ)

At 7 they reverted to cookies and soda and chips.

They closed promptly at 10:00. I wish they had stayed open until the parks closed. Would have been nice to beable to cme back and grab a soda or water.....

AT times, you neededto ask for what youwanted. The fridge with soda would be empty at times and you needed to ask them to get you something.

I had heard tips were encouaged if you got special services, but we didn't feel like wegot anything out of the ordinary.

A 8:30 theyhad a story time for younger children. Blanket and pillows on the floor with a disney bdtime story. That was nice.

As a rule I didn't think they did a very good job of communicating with you - the staff never asked how things were going - was there anything we needed help with, etc. Seems like a letter in the room would have been nice at the very least.

Overall, it was nice. We enjoyed ourselves very much. Would I pay a lot extra for thisservice? no - but if it were a good deal - not too much more - yes. The sheer convenience of having breakfast was worth some money!!

Have fun and enjoy!

jillhou,

I noticed that you said you have 3 boys. I assume you have 5 people in 1 room. What type of room did you get? Did you get the ones with the bunk beds? Was it spacious enough? I have heard many people complaining about the room size.

We are going to DL around Xmas and I am trying to figure what is the best since we have 5 people also. Thanks so much.

We were there July 5 - 7. I called the previous Monday & was quoted an AP rate of $259 for a standard room at the GC. I booked at the PP for $99. I called back the following Tuesday, three days before we went, and was quoted $169 for the AP rate at GC, and I asked them to change my PP reservation to GC for that rate.

It's frustrating to see low rates on the internet that anyone can book and get quoted something higher when you have an AP. Even if they beat their lowest internet rate by $10 it would make me feel like I was getting more value from my AP. I had the same frustration with the DC and did not renew that; I could find lower rates myself on the internet than they could offer DC members.

We've had the room with the bunk bed both times we've stayed at GC. It was great for a family of 4. If you have kids little enough to use a pack-n-play the room can sleep 6 people but it would be a tight fit. DS8 LOVES the top bunk!!

The GC did have a AP concierge rate available for $239 if I remember; but due to our late arrival on 7/5 it would have been impossible to use the concierge lounge on our first day there. So I passed on that. Hope this helps!

We will be staying at the Grand Californian from 8/11-8/15. We got a pool view room for $179 with our AP discount.

Thanks for the information!!
We did the AKL Concierge last year for the very first time (GREAT AP rate!) and DH fell in love with it.
They offered us a Military rate, and he said 'Why not?" So we are.

Breakfast is inportant to DH (COFFEE), so he'll be happy!!

Thanks again!
