I'm so excited about my upcoming surprise trip for my son who is turning 10! I will be taking him by myself and overall feel very comfortable at Disney as we have been a few times, but never before w/o my husband. So, who has gone alone or just w/a child? Any tips for me:worship: I am mostly obsessing over little things like: don't forget the room key, money, adr #s when leaving the resort:rotfl:

Since he'll be 10, he'll be a great help. I took our two girls and our son who were 4,5&6 at the time by myself. Now that was a lot of work. It was a great trip though. One thing I did was took a purse that I could wear over my shoulder and it had several compartments to keep me organized. Just make sure that you put the items back in the same place that you took them out of and it will help greatly. Also, a small notepad/pen with the information I needed on it. The camera fit in it too but there wasn't any extra room. Sounds like it's going to be a great trip!!! Just enjoy your time together!!!!!!!!

Great info! Thank you so much. You are truly a super mom:wizard:

I took DD when she was 7 to MGM...we did the day HER way...she decided what rides to go on, where to eat....etc. She has great memories of that trip and still says it was the best day ever :)

i remember being told i was "the best mom ever" several times that day - especially after riding Rockin Rollercoaster 7 times in a row!!!

I have been many times with my girls. It will be such a great trip for both of you. My biggest piece of advice would just be to take things easy and follow his lead. Go where he wants to go and do what he wants to do. He is at a great age in that he can go on rides by himself if you don't want to go, etc. I would also give him a little bit of responsibilty (like making it his job to make sure you have the room keys before leaving the room or holding on to the adr 3s, etc). That why you can dump lots of praise on him about how he is growing up to be such a fine young man or whatever -- especially if you see him give up his seat or something like that.

I will be taking my girls in January they will be 9 & 8 by myself. I am a single mom but I am looking at it as another journey in my life.
I tend to get overwhelmed but I am excited as well.

I think that they will have fun. We went in July for their 1st trip and we went with my ex his mother & brother and I thought that it would alright with so many adults.
Let's just say it was a nightmare. I was crying on the 2nd day of the trip.
I can't wait to go back with just my kids.

Have a great trip!

You'll be fine. I've gone by myself with just my DS (6 at time) and DD (17 months at the time.) I don't think you guys will have any problems, and will have a great time. Having the baby was a little stressful, but my 6 year old was a great help. If it had only been me and him we would have had nothing to worry about. I think at 10, you guys only have fun to think about;)

Some of the best trips to WDW have just been the DD's and myself. It has provided some excellent bonding between the three of us. DH does not like Disney that much so I do not feel bad for taking them myself.
Go and have a great time!!!

Yeah!
A mommy & me trip :banana::banana::banana:

DD7 and I took off for DL on a whim and had a wonderful time.

My favorite part was the drive down.
She was in such a good mood
smilie, cracking jokes, singing

We shared meals & snacks
we held hands
She tried Big Thunder Mountain for the first time!

It was a magical day.:wizard:

Enjoy!

I took my youngest DD, then 7, to Disney by myself and we had a BLAST. She set the pace, determined what rides/ attractions she wanted to do, no matter how odd the choices may have seemed to me. We had ice cream for lunch, ate nothing but junk food etc - all the "nonsense" that we wouldn't do normally.
I would not trade that experience for all the tea in China ... and I love my tea!

I rented a double stroller, even though she was a big girl! The stroller allowed me to take a load off my back and shoulders, gave her a place to sit and relax when she needed to, and allow me to dash from ride to ride quickly without the complaints of being too tired etc.

Have fun! I'm sure this will be a memorable trip for you and your son!

I'm doing the same thing next year! My dh and I are self-employed (him full-time and me part-time) and we really can't shut down the office for a week or two in this economy. So we decided that I would do 2 smaller trips with each of the kids on their own and do a couple of long weekend trips for us as family. I go to WDW with my soon to be 8 year old DS in November for 5 nights and will go next May with my 12 year old DS. My plan is to let them do whatever their favourites are - food, rides, parks. Whatever....I will let the anal planner in me go and just have a kid planned holiday. I am soooo looking forward to the trips and can't wait to tell them.
