Have you ever won a trip?

I know every now and then there are contests, but I was just curious if anyone has ever won a trip? If you do, are you able to pay to add extra nights etc? Were there a bunch of black out dates? Did it all go well, or was it a "too good to be true" kinda thing?

I haven't but I do know that WDW often donates one day park tickets to charity events. You cannot add days to those tickets.

I have not either. I did want to point out that a winner of a trip, or any winning of any sort, has to be prepared to pay the income tax on the suggested retail value of all the components of the trip/or other winning. Depending on how large the prize, that sometimes could be difficult. All said however, I would like to win some day. :)

(not to be taken as financial/tax advice)

lol. Yes, I'd love to win, too. That sure would be nice! In Canada, you don't have to pay taxes on winning trips like that, which is nice. I've entered a few over the years, haven't won yet, but hopefully some day! My poor MIL though, she falls for those "scam" sites on Facebook that seem to give away a trip every day. Saw another one recently, but it did make me wonder, how many have won legitimate trips, and how it all worked out.

That is fabulous!!! Is that only on trips or similar, or are there no taxes due on any kind of winnings?

how many have won legitimate trips,
I do know there have been a pretty good number of people here on the dis who have won various Disney trips and similar over the years.

We're pretty lucky - no taxes on ANY kind of winnings. So, say you win the $50 million jackpot, you don't pay a penny of taxes on those winnings. What you WILL pay taxes on later, once the money is deposited/invested, is taxes on the interest earned, but never on the initial $50 million.

I have!! It wasn't through Disney but it includes Disney tickets and well as Universal and SeaWorld tickets. I was told that we can add on to the Disney tickets for more days if we want. We haven't taken the trip yet. It is an awesome trip that also includes VIP tours at Disney and Universal. I can't even imagine what it is going to be worth once it is all done. There were blackout dates, like Easter and any major holidays which I would never choose to travel anyway.

We won a WDW trip about 5 years ago.

I bought chances from a Boston Terrier rescue that had the park tickets as a prize. I was thrilled when they contacted me (before I bought my Military Salute tickets) to tell me I won 4 one-day tickets!!!

We won a 5 day trip in 1997. Airfare, car rental, park tickets and Carribean Beach Resort were included. We paid a little extra and stayed for a week.

Like the poster above me, my mom won a trip in like 97. It was airfare, car rental, Port Orleans Riverside and a 3 day cruise to the Bahamas. I didn't get to go :( My mom and dad were in a bitter custody battle and since my mom had custody of my brother, my dad refused to let me go.

while not a disney trip I did win a trip to Jamacia

It was by an oil change place--you would get a card with a number then 4 times a day the radio station would call out a number if you had that # you had 10 minutes to call

I had a system worked out--after dropping my kids at school I would stop at 4 of the oil change places and picked up my # for the day

after awhile the guys got to know me and would give me a handful!!!

finally I had the winning # so I bought the shop where I got the winning # a box of donuts

they were happy I won and were surprised and loved the donuts

that trip was awesome

I won through orbitz.com about 6 or 7 years ago. It was one of those moments that seemed to be a dream when I saw the words "congratulations" instead of "Try again tomorrow". I had to read the browser screen about 10 times thinking their had to be a "catch".

Ended up staying at Poly with special gifts in the room for everyone in the family. Free airfair. A couple of pre-paid visa cards, And I believe it was 5 day hopper tickets. Did not try to extend it any. I don't believe there was any blackout dates.

I have. We were able to pick from any of the deluxe resorts, received park hoppers and airline tickets for 4. We could have added extra people, or nights, at our expense. And yes, we had to pay the taxes. But it was well worth it!!
