Have you ever run into Canadians who live in your part of Canada?

That happened to my family & I during our August 2004 vacation while at WDW. The 1st time it happened we were on the Monorail going to the Contemporary when this kid says to me are you from Toronto? (Seeing my Toronto Maple Leafs hat). I said yes we are & then his father asked what part, we told him yes we live in Thornhill. Well to our shock he said his family was also from Thornhill. In all the years we have been to WDW we had never run into people who live in the same town as us. We seen people from Toronto & various parts but never from Thornhill.

The 2nd time it happened we were stoped for lunch at a McDonald's in Adel, Georiga on our way back home. Again a man in a Goofy tank top asks are you from Toronto? (Again seeing my Toronto Maple Leafs hat). We tell them Thornhill & he said your kidding we also live in Thornhill. So what were the chances we meet 2 familes from our area & the 2nd one being a fluke because we did not expect to meet people from Thornhill at a McDonalds in a small Georgia town. The funny thing is when we left they had parked their van next to my Dad's Jeep, because their license plate said Ontario so it had to be them because there were no other cars parked from Canada.

So does anyone have stories similar like mine?

I once ran in to a retired co'worker while window shopping in a large mall in Tampa

Our firsy trip, we stayed offsite. We were swimming in the Hotel's pool one evening, and our kids started playing with 2 other children. After about 20 minutes, the two families were the only people in the pool. During small talk, we found out that the other couple was not only fellow Canadians, but they originally lived in the next small town to us, and the kids' grandmother worked at the same place as my wife.

Yep, I met a friend of mine while in line to see the Walt Disney story, years ago. We went to public school together and years later ended up teaching in the same school. :)

I ran into a friend from town in a mall in Destin Fla. Neither of us knew the other was going on holiday.

Last Septemeber (a quiet time at WDW), I walked into the Germany pavilion in Epcot to do the kids' craft, and low and behold another playgroup Mom and her family were already there. Neither of us knew the other was going. There you go... not metting someone form your town... meeting someone from your neighbourhood in Germany :teeth:

My parents had come along on that trip too. We had purposely decided to do some days seperately, but we still ran into each other at the parks.

Goes to show you, It's a Small World After All :rotfl2:

This last trip to WDW, we went into one of the food joints in Animal Kingdom. While we were looking for a table we heard this little voice that said "that's Ben!" and an adult's voice that said, don't be silly, you don't know anyone here. After a repeat and another shush, we turned around and saw a boy from my ds's school, one grade up. They knew each other from the playground and thought it was too funny that they ran into each other at WDW.

We ran into a couple from our church and their little kids at MK 2 years ago. It was weird but nice to see them! Their son is a cancer survivor so they were on a neat trip for kids with cancer and got to go to the front of every line. I was really happy for them - they were having a blast! :)

Many years ago, I had to take a doubletake as I seen my cousin and his family at Magic Kingdom. Neither of us knowing the other was away from home and at Disney. They only live about 5 minutes from us.

Not a Disney, but at many different vacation locations I've run in to people I went to high school with. That's always a shock when you haven't seen them in such a long time.

In 96 I ran into 2 people that I went to public and highschool with while at the magic kingdom then in 99 I ran into a lady who was a frequent customer to the computer store I worked in at the time and also to a teacher and his family on the bus to DTD. My wife can't believe that we can go to Disney and amongst all the 1000's of people walking around at any given time I can manage to run into people I know.

Hi: Yes my hubby ran into a fellow he worked with while we were in magic kingdom. On another trip he ran into another fellow he worked with who was staying with his family in the same building as us at the poly.

Our last trip this past dec. we ran into neighbours who live a few blocks away while in mgm, it seems they left the same day as us and drove thru the same snowstorm we did to get to wdw.

We always seem to meet someone from home while in wdw.

2 stories...

Sitting at Blessed Sacrament Church in Clermont last Feb, before Mass begins..my mom leans over to my dad and I and says:

"Isn't that Bill from church at home??"

We both turn around, look..
"Nah, can't be...well, maybe.."

So all three of us, in our loudest whisper:
"Bill!"

(We're tourists, no one knows us here:teeth:!!)

"What? Oh, my goodness!!"

And the better one...
We're sitting in the trams at MGM, leaving in that huge horde of people after Fantasmic!

The CM is making their "departing" announcements..all legs, arms and Mickey Ears inside the tram at all times, etc, etc,...and I hear my name being screamed from the the waiting area.

It's my cousin Martha - whom I haven't seen in oh, 8 or 9 years!! (they live in Alberta)

And the tram pulls away!!

Next day, we're at AK/Rainforest Cafe for early lunch...and guess who is in the lineup too:teeth:

Had a great lunch :goodvibes

:sunny:

In March, at the Alamo lot at the airport, we ran into a family where my son and their son played hockey together on the same team 3 years ago. We saw them again one day at MGM.

Yep! One of our trips when I was a kid: at the "World's Biggest Flea Market", a girl runs up to me...it's our next-door-neighbour! We didn't know they were going away, and vice-versa.

Didn't we run into them again a few days later at MK? It's a small....well, you know....

I've always run into people from Montreal, although it's never anyone I know. Montrealers are easy to spot because they're usually speaking French.

On our Honeymoon in '99, the week before Disney we were off site and at that resorts' quiet pool we met up with a Grandma, Mom, and teenager from our hometown.
On our trip this spring, I ran into a co-worker on the flight home - neither of us knew the other had been in Florida. Of course she recognized my daughter first lol!

On our Wonder cruise during March Break we were on a ferry coming back from the Stingray excursion and I was reading a library book and a woman sitting across from us interrupts me to ask if I was from Whitby (ON) seeing the "Whitby Public Library" sticker on my book. Like they say it's a small worl afterall. :goodvibes

Hi! :wave2: My first post...thought it appropriate to be on the Canadian board!

DH and I were in Hawaii, at the time we lived in Vancouver, but grew up in Montreal. We took the shuttle bus to the local mall, but got on the wrong one. As other people are boarding, DH turns to me and says, that guy looks really familiar. It turns out that the guy and his family were old neighbor's of DH's from 20 years ago, who still lived in Montreal. We ended up at the same restaurant later on that night, by chance. It was really incredible.

First family WDW trip......Aug 2006 WL - Woo Hoo! :woohoo:

We also seem to run into people in restaurants on I-75 on the way down. Once we met another family from our church. I remember as a kid passing/being passed by (not often the way my dad drove... ;) ) people from my school on I-75 too and waving.

Beth :)
