Have you ever missed your "first home" and paid cash to just stay there again?

Our first real stay was at POR, Loved it. Bought DVC site unseen into BCV, loved it. But we almost always go 1 evening over to Port Orleans riverside to see the piano guy. What a Hoot!! The guy is great. And there is a certain style there that is very inviting. And the boat to DTD is a real plus.

What we typically do is stay in our DVC unit Sunday to Saturday. On the Saturday night before we check into DVC we stay somewhere else onsite. A couple of times it's been Pop Century but for our upcoming June trip it's going to be Coronado Springs. We've never stayed there before and we're looking forward to seeing what it is like. We have two other WDW trips planned over the next year and I'm thinking doing POFQ for one and POR for the other.

I just have to reply to this, it first made me shudder, then I had a BIG smile. I could just see your DAD!!! As a parent, I would never let my child out of my sight at Disney, now I would hide behind the tree! Alright Dad!!!:woohoo:

Yeah, he's a big ole goofball. He loves Disney more than the rest of us I think.

Another DIXIE LANDING FAN......I love that place. This was my only reserve when purchasing BCV (sight unseen as well). Dixie Landing will always have a special place in my heart, I have great memories there. I think it's so funny hearing how many people feel connected to this resort, I sometimes feel silly about it....now I see I'm not alone!

It's amazing how many of us love Port Orleans and Dixie Landings!

Nope not nuts at all. Love still staying at the other resorts as well.
Staying habits may change a bit since we'll be spending most of the year in FL now.

Haven't stayed at PO since it was "merged into DL" Still miss the old Bonfamilles at PO. :sad1:

Ok all of you Dixie Landing lovers. Who here, besides me, has the original Yellow mug with Mickey on it??

Several years ago we used them and the CM got a huge smile on his face and said "that's a classic!":)

My wife and I both miss Dixie landings! We stayed there several times before we joined DVC. The thing my wife missed the most was the food court. We stayed at OKW our first 2 DVC visits and the food selection there is limited to basically Olivia's. We were even thinking about walking over but, their really was no way to walk over!

I grew up staying at Fort Wilderness with my family. My parents would take us there every 2-3 years, and I have too many wonderful memories to count. I would love to go back, but my wife princess: is not a "camper". That being said, staying there with her and our kid(s) would be a little out of the question. I also must admit that, as an adult, I've become a bit spoiled by the conveniences of hotels, so reverting back to the camping lifestyle would take a little adjustment.

Fortunately, my parents are retired/retiring now and still haven't lost their love of camping. They still frequent WDW and we plan to coordinate some of our future trips. Now, I get to play/reminisce in FW and come back "home" to my comfy bed. The best of both worlds!

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention the best part: FREE BABYSITTING!!

Count me in with the crazies! I just said to DH a few days ago that I will really miss POFQ and the Poly since we joined DVC. He said we could always go for a short trip and stay at one of them from time to time. That made me feel better b/c I have such a strong attachment to them, especially POFQ. Before DD, we would stay there and it was just the 2 of us and we have such great memories. I fell in love with the Poly on our last stay with DD b/c of the monorail and the beautiful theming. Ahhhhh, I want to go right now!

Yes!! As a matter of fact, I have four of them, but they're not yellow, they're red with Brer Bear and Fox on them. And they say Dixie Landings on them, shhhhh, I plan on bringing two of them with us (did I just say that). And I have the Dixie Landings pin, love that, one of my favorite souvenirs of all time. I wish I had a coffee mug, I collect them. Don't ya wish it was still called that?

We're BCV owners and love it there. But I find myself thinking about POR alot. We absolutely loved our stays there a few years ago. So, our next trip, we're doing a week at BCV, but starting off with three days at POR, using one night of points and 2 nights on cash. Are we crazy??
No you're not crazy. I haven't done it yet but we think about it often and are planning to soon.

Whaddaya talking about, we still call it Dixie Landings!

We refuse to be politically correct!

And don't worry, we are not going to say a thing about refillable mugs lasting a lifetime. Funny thing is that when we go to Dixie Landings with our mugs, we don't get the free soda because my husband hates diet Coke and we bring some other diet soda in the mug. It is just the nostalgia of the mug!

Ya, wouldn't you DIE if you lost yours? I would.

Nope. We are just 2 adults and we keep pretty good track of our mugs. We have had the Dixie Landings one since 1994ish and our VWL since about 1997. The VWL ones get dragged out twice a year! Come to think if it we did lose one of the covers to our DXL mugs. Not that careful I guess!

This is one resort I'm mst anxious to explore on my upcoming May trip to SSR. The pictures and trip reports all make PO look like such a neat place. Is anyone else tempted to wish DVC built an add-on there? Perhaps a few mansion buildings and GV cottages.

Hey BroganMc, its us together again!:goodvibes Ya, you would love this resort, the grounds are extraordinary and ultra beautiful. Enough to spend an entire day or two just walking around and the boat to DD, its just so peaceful. I'd love for DVC to do something here, that would be awesome. Our original home, thats for sure.

Prolific, aren't we?

I have a hunch I'll like PO, Dixie Landings or whatever you want to call it. The bayous and old southern mansions are my style.

I have the Brer Bear cups myself! I miss Dixie landings!

Yes, we paid cash to return to our 1st "love", POR. Once in conjunction with with our first trip home at BWV (that was a lovely two weeks :) ) and once during free dining :thumbsup2 . We had a wonderful time...although on the second trip my DH missed the ESPN club. :goodvibes. We will probably only return now during the free dining promotion!
