Have you ever missed your "first home" and paid cash to just stay there again?

We're BCV owners and love it there. But I find myself thinking about POR alot. We absolutely loved our stays there a few years ago. So, our next trip, we're doing a week at BCV, but starting off with three days at POR, using one night of points and 2 nights on cash. Are we crazy??

I don't think you're crazy. We have never stayed at POR, but we go there and walk around and take in the beautiful atmosphere.

I could not do what you are doing, however. I would miss having a balcony. Have a great time!

I know what you mean, I love that balcony in the morning with my coffee! But boy, do I miss that resort sometimes, especially the grounds and that pool slide! Oh, and love the food court, I miss that at the DVC's.

I do miss my "old stomping grounds", when we stayed at other resorts prior to joining DVC.
I have never paid cash to stay at the resorts we used to vacation at, but we go visit, walk the grounds, and eat at the resorts...just like going home for Sunday dinner.....

DH and I were considering it, but DVC accomodated us by building villas there, so we'll be back at AKL before too long.

It came to me all of a sudden, not a reort hotel, but I do miss a stay at FW in the trailer homes, and I have talked to DH about staying there sometime...he sort of agrees, but I know that he doesn't like the remoteness, and will expect to have a golf cart. I'll go along with that. We never did have one before. So, yes, I can see us doing what you are doing in the future. For now, we ride bikes past the homes, and I plan!

Our first two stays at WDW were at AKL. Our only regret in buying DVC is that we wouldn't be spending more than the occasional night at AKL because having spent so much to buy in, I wasn't keen on the idea of paying out of pocket for accommodations. We did stay there one night on our trip last May because we had my mom with us and I wanted her to experience AKL, and I realized just how much I miss staying there. I think you know how this story ends...!

You're not crazy at all. Do it! And don't be surprised if you react like I did when I did something similar. Same resorts, too! Although I own at BCV, I used to stay at POR pre-DVC, and missed it. So I stayed at POR one weekend for 2 nights before a BCV stay. I'm afraid my reaction was "I missed THIS?" POR was very nice, but I spent 2 days just thinking of how I was looking forward to BCV. And the lack of a balcony off my room really upset me. One of those things (for me at least) that you get used to REAL fast. Now, although I like POR, I have no overwhelming desire to return there.

You're not crazy at all! We love BCV, where our home is, but we stayed at POFQ seven times before that, so it feels very homey to us too. We go to WDW twice a year. For the big trip, we stay on points at the BCV. For the weekend trip at Christmas, we usually go back to POFQ. This year we decided to try the Poly though. I think I'll miss POFQ though. I remember being ten years old and my parents let me walk from the room to the food court to get a drink by myself. I thought I was so cool because I never got that freedom at home. It wasn't until I was on my way back that I saw my dad trying to hide himself behind a tree. He was following me. :lmao:

Yeppers, we do! We love the Polynesian and that was the one thing holding up back initially from buying DVC. One of our favorite things is watching the MK fireworks from the Polynesian conceirge lounge or beach. Using points for the Polynesian was not a good buy so now we usually try to stay there on weekends when the points are higher for DVC or add it on to the beginning or end of a vacation.

What a wonderful memory :grouphug:

We must be crazy too then :) I bought DVC on a trip to POR and the kids made me promise that we would still come back once in awhile. I think many people feel that way about their first resort and we manage to get our POR fix once a year now by combining it with our August DVC stays. It makes a nice weekend if you don't want to pay DVC points for weekends. This year we got the bounceback offer with free dining and are going to POR for 9 nights in-between DVC stays. Best of both worlds.

While Dixie Landings is not the first WDW resort we ever stayed at, it is our first love. We stayed there a couple of years ago and I cannot believe how much we missed staying there. So no, you are not crazy! Or, we are both crazy!:lmao:

POR (it will always be Dixie Landings to me) was the first resort we stayed at on our daughters very first trip to Disney World at age 3. To see disney through her eyes was so very magical. That place will always hold special memories for us. So a few years ago when we were interested into buying DVC. I posted on this board how I loved Dixie Landings and never have seen any of the DVC resorts before which one would be the closest to it. Old Key West was the response I received, so I bought there and on our first trip home it was just as magical, so I have no desire to give up OKW now.

The first time we stayed on property was at the AS Movies our two DS' were very young. The excitement and photo ops from our upper level room overlooking the Toy Story area are memories I will always hold.

We actually still do stay there most trips for a Sat night to save on weekend points. This way I can get down 3 times a year!

Well Jillpie, you are not crazy...unless I am too! We just got back from 12 nights at Disney...The first 3 were at POR, cash (my family  it), 5 nights were at BWV on points and then when our flight home was cancelled we had to stay elsewhere so we had 4 nights at CSR on cash!

Dang, your flight was cancelled for 4 whole nights!:thumbsup2 That sounds like something I would do!:rotfl2:

Jilliepie our first love (first onsite resort) was CSR. It holds a very special place in our hearts. We made several trips after buying in to DVC and always added a few days at CSR. However, last summer for some reason we just didn't enjoy it nearly as much and that feeling is gone for now. We still have that first love feeling but no longer have the desire to stay there. Maybe that will change in a few years but for now we are sticking with our DVC resorts. Of course we do go over for dinner at least one evening during each trip though! Just love the Pepper Market!

This seems to be a gathering of the Dixie Landings fans who bought DVC ! Like others that have posted , our first trip pre-dvc was DxL and we absolutely loved it. Even though we love our DVC stays we still enjoy staying at other resorts - have done AKL 4 times post-dvc purchase and POR a number of times too - usually the weekend to save points though the last 2 trips we did that had weekend stays we stayed DVC but paid cash for the weekend nights.

All this being said, we just booked Riverside for 3 nights starting July 4. Going down to WDW to swim and catch some fireworks. Could have used points, but we had to borrow for a June trip - 4 nights at the Grand Californian after staying at the Grand Canyon. I don't think my dvc stays have spoiled me for staying at riverside - this resort does still hold a certain "magic" for my family and I. A slow stroll on the grounds, a fountain drink while watching the water-wheel turn and you almost find yourself in a zen-like state :goodvibes . Pure Disney !

I just have to reply to this, it first made me shudder, then I had a BIG smile. I could just see your DAD!!! As a parent, I would never let my child out of my sight at Disney, now I would hide behind the tree! Alright Dad!!!:woohoo:

Oh you guys, these responses were fantastic. I feel so much better. For those Dixie Landing lovers like me (see my siggie:) ), my plan is to check in for 3 nights, before BCV. The first day do MK and Epcot. BUT, the second day I want to really "take in" this resort. I don't want to run all over the place, just want to experience this place like before, I have to go down that slide, have to have dinner and chocolate cake from the food court, (and my 14 yr. old has to have his "worms and dirt" from there), HAVE to go to downtown disney on that boat:banana: , how do you do DxL without going on that boat at least once? I cannot wait. Not till next April, 08 though!
