I was wondering if members ever end up with a handful of points they can't use (or bank) at the end of their use year? Say you had 5 or so points that you were stuck with after a ressie. Have any members out there had points expire?
:guilty: :hourglass

I had 3 points I almost lost earlier this year. I had a last minute business trip to Orlando in early February and decided to stay an extra day. I got a studio at BCV, it was 13 points, so I used the 3 and borrowed 10. I had a cancelled trip and could bank all but 3 points that were borrowed.

No, but then we go enough to avoid that problem. I do have a friend who owns only 151 points, and only goes to Disney every other year. She often is in that dilemma where she will have a few points, but not enough to make a ressie for even a day in a studio. I think she lost 7 points her first time when she didn't know how to manage them. Now I have her educated better, and she hasn't been caught in that situation again.

Due to circumstances relating to my husband's job, we had to cancel 3 days prior to our May trip to OKW. This was supposed to be our daughter's high school graduation trip. :( :sad1: We now have 407 points in holding and another 50 we had banked from last year but hadn't booked yet. All of these points need to be used by the end of March '07, but things aren't looking too great right now for us to be able to use them. We've been members since '94 and have never had a situation like this come up so I'm not sure what we're going to do. I imagine renting points in a holding account might be rather difficult due to the 60 day window. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that my husband & I will be able to make a last minute trip sometime this fall. My daughter starts college in a couple weeks so she won't be able to go.

I've been so depressed about having to cancel our trip (especially since we didn't go last year!). I've wanted to post because I knew if anyone would understand what I'm feeling, the DISers would. My mom and other family members (not Disney fans) gave the usual "well, you go every year, so what's the big deal" reply. Everytime I started a post, it sounded like I was whining, so I cancelled before ever hitting the submit button. If y'all are reading this, I guess I hit the submit button this time. :teeth:

I was in position that it might have happened. That's when I decided that I'd always borrow a few from the coming year, rather than save a handful of points from the previous year. Rather stay an extra day than lose points.

We lost 32 points this spring as we had to leave early as Wife was ill. They were june use year and we went in May. If they would have gave them back they would have expired in 2 weeks anyway.

The first year we joined we lost 13 points because we couldnt use them and figured thats just what happens. Then I found the Disboards and now I know better! :sunny:

If you can't make a trip, you are better off renting them for 5-7 dollars per point than losing them. There are always people on the rent/trade board wanting reservations for a short time frame. I don't know the rules, but maybe they can be used for a deposit to II. Sounds unlikely, but something to check out.

Tammy - You're right, we should try to rent the points rather than lose them, but I guess I'm still hoping things will work out and my husband & I will be able to use them sometime before they expire. Between Hurricane Rita last year and now this work situation, I really, really, really need a trip to OKW soon to get my sanity back! I don't care if we set foot in the parks. All I want to sit on the balcony at OKW with my coffee and a book and I'll be very happy. :ccat:

We did a 50 point add on that came after our banking deadline. Now, I know that people have had the deadline extended in cases like this, but I didn't know that at the time, and even Michelle our guide didn't mention this possibility to me. In the end, we offered a weekend trip to Give the Kids the World organization and volunteers went to OKW, but there were still a few points that went by the wayside.

Now, all UY '06 have been accounted for, and we're well into using our '07 points :goodvibes

My heart goes out to all (like Shadeaux) who have had family problems causing cancelled vacations, and I hope you are able to get some value for your points. What I most hope for is that you can arrange a vacation to enjoy! :woohoo:
