Progress at last . Our doctor friend is an ER physician in Monroe. He finally got our messages and had me bring her to him. He is such a nice guy and is Determined to solve this.

Right now we are waiting for them to come and get her for a spinal tap. I'll update when we find out something.

Wonderful news so far. Her spinal fluid is clear and looks good. Fever has been up to 102 while we were gere and feels like it is going up again now.

I don't know what dirrection he will go now.

I agree with the other poster who asked about Lyme disease. This is my second time treating this. Sensitivity to light and headaches is definitely a symptom. If you get a chance go to healingwell.com and then to the lyme forum and look at the symptoms to see if they fit.

Glad the LP looks clear at least - would have expected that it should be - by clear I assume no WBC.. Her CSF Protein might be elevated some which might point towards the viral.. might have some lymphs too

Make sure he send all the viral titers (enterovirus, arbovirus, west nile, eastern/western/st louis.. could send Lyme for kicks).. AFB, etc

I don't have the whole history but I'm sure someone's thought about autoimmune/rheum things (lupus, sarcoid, wegener's, on and on...) - some simple ANA/ESR/CRP/ANCA/ACE etc should rule those out.. if there's any inflammation/etc the ESR/CRP will help too..

I wouldn't "assume" anything as well (no disrespect intended), she may need a HIV Ab/HIV viral load, RPR, etc.. He can send Mycoplasma titers, Mono, etc

Are you around any cows, animals, chickens, birds, etc?

I think we have to start thinking about less common stuff...tick or mosquito borne illnesses (Lyme or erlichiosis come to mind immediately, but there are a number of them), mono...things like that.

OP -Hugs for you and your DD. I'm so sorry to hear all this is happening.

I quoted DD's post because my mother ended up with the one I bolded. She was in the hospital for 4 days being treated by an infectious disease doctor before he even narrowed it down. She didn't even know she had been bitten by a tick. So I would second DD's suggestion of an infectious disease doctor.
Oh and initially the ER diagnosed it as a bad gallbladder based on an x-ray. Sounded like a good plan until the surgeon walked over to the light box and flipped the x-ray over and told them they were looking at her spleen!!

We are back at home. The test for West Nile will not be back from the lab until early next week. When we arrived there at eleven this morning her temperature was 99.4, within fourty minutes or so it went to 102.

Yesterday they did the MRI of her head, today the Spinal Tap. I'll copy from the papers he sent home with us.

I don't know what some of these are but I am posting them for those who do.

They are treating her as if she has West Nile. Put her on Doxycycline HYC 100 MG Tab and Tamiflu 75 MG Gelcap.

We live in a small town but other than her kitten she hasn't been around any animals.

When we got home her temperature was 102 again.
