My cousin said she is taking tanning pills as an alternative to sun and/or tanning booths and/or those spray on tans. I am tempted to try them myself now. Has anyone heard of this or actually tried them? Is it safe? Do they work?

Thank you! :wave2:

Isnt that what C Thomas Howell took in the 80's movie Soul Man?? I thought that they were fictitous, maybe not anymore...I havent heard of any since though...sorry I couldnt be anymore help!

I think I saw an ad for it in the back of a magazine once...

I'd be pretty weary about taking pills that promise to change my skin color...What if they turn you orange? What if they don't do anything? Or you have a bad reaction?
Doesn't sound too safe to me...

My local news actually did a 'consumer report' thing on these pills last year.

Some local college kid started taking them...after 3 weeks...she was still the same color as when she started. Said they didn't do anything for her. She had no other adverse reactions...but she did say they were a waste of money.

I just have to say that there is no 'magic' pill out there for anything. (Well - except for my migraine medication...and some pain killers) But no pill exists that will tan me, make me lose 20+lbs, decrease my stretch marks, or give me bigger breasts.

If you want to go the safest way - self tanning lotion - try the new L'oreal one...I hear it rocks.

Oh yes! L'Oreal Sublime Bronze....used it last night before bed...my legs look amazing, as they usually do when I use it ;)

Yeah, I was kind of sceptical about it...thanks for confirming what I thought. I think I'll leave those pills alone!

Most of them contain the orangy stuff from carrots (beta carotene). Eating enough carrots will have the same effect, but it's really a jaundiced orange more than a tan.

Google carotenemia if you're interested in details.

I tried them once but it was really a pain rubbing them all over my body while I sat by the pool. And don't even think about squeezing the oil out of those pills, it can't be done. I finally decided the best use was to put one of those pills over each eye and just lay in the sun.

No silly, you are supposed to swallow them! :teeth:

Are you sure that they are real? Is it some type of beta- carotene thing? it sounds kind of wacky!:sunny:
