Have you ever heard of someone being allergic to a color?

I met a lady at church who is allergic to the color peach. She cannot go into certain rooms of the church because they have floral wallpaper with peach in it. If she goes near the color peach she breaks out in hives. Has anyone ever heard of this?

Its physological (sp?) You break out in hives from nerves as well.

I was once allergic to a boy.Anytime he touched me I got a rash in the spot touched.It was soo funny cause he was a mean boy and I was able to get back at him by saying he gave me a rash so he must be dirty. So fun to torment the tormenter.

Sounds like an anxiety disorder rather than a medical reaction(hope that makes sense) to the color peach...

the color purple gives me a headache if I look at it long enough.

Maybe it is the dye that is used in some products! I know a couple of people who are allergic to red dye!

Sounds like maybe a psychsomatic response. I know there are allergies to color dyes but this sounds like it may not be a physiological reaction.

Some people are allergic to dyes if they ingest them, but I've never heard of anyone being allergic to a color just by looking at it!

I work with a girl who is allergic to red. Turns out it was the perfume red, not the color.

It's all psychological for her. You can't be allergic to anything just by looking at it, as far as I know. I've always heard to be allergic to something, you have to taste it, touch it or smell it to have a physical reaction to it. You can have a psychologic reaction that could turn into a physical reaction by sight and by sound, and the other 3 senses too, though.

Yep, I've been allergic to almost everything at one point in my life, but allergic to a color, nope, can't happen. If she's having a physical reaction to a color, then she needs a doctor, and not an allergist.

Have to admit...this is a new one on me!
I know some have allergies to ingesting certain food coloring.
